Wanting one to carry on the tractor for snakes. Which one is best? Not gonna be shooting much and only the 410 bird shot for snakes.

I'm a fan of S&W so the Governor wins for me. But for the price there is nothing wrong with the Judge. For working on the tractor and sweat getting on the gun along with all other fluids and crud, I'd look into the polymer Judge

Agree with bigpig. For a tractor, the judge probably wins. Overall, either is probably a similar value for the money.

Had a Judge come apart on us one day. No clue what happened to it or why. Cylinder came completely off and the pin that holds the cylinder straight so it lines up with the barrel was missing. It was sent back and repaired under warranty so not a huge problem. It was a black parkerized version.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Had the Judge, got tired of the Taurus quality, sold it and bought the Governor. The S&W is a much better gun.

I plan on getting one or the other at some point and have done quite a bit of comparison.....only online reviews and such, no hands-on as of yet. I'm leaning toward spending the extra dough to get the S&W. However for what you're looking at it for, I'm sure the Judge will be fine.

Do you own a revolver? If so, they make shot shells for many different calibers. Maybe you could save yourself the cost of a Judge or Governor...

S&W AirWeight 38 Special and 5 rounds of CCI Blazer 38sp ShotShells. totally effective on snakes & rats & WAYYY lighter (half the weight) and easier to carry.

Between your 2 choices, I'd take the Governor. If you already own a pistol or revolver, I'd second the CCI shot rounds for whatever caliber you already own.

How far can the cci shot shells be effective on a 38 round? 5-7 yards, so about the same as the .410. The pattern will really doughnut farther out. A .22 mag with shotshells is rattlesnake medicine.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.
