Do you feel more of an accomplishment with a DIY public hunt finding good bird numbers or it doesn't matter as long as there's birds

I take a little more pride in DIY hunts, but don't have many anymore.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I like them both but feel way more pride when it's diy. Killed birds diy in four states this year. Way less birds than on private but that's ok.

I dont care, as long as there are wild birds.
But I will say, I have never had an awesome public land hunt. I have had some good public land hunts but my only "awesome" (multiple coveys) hunts have been on private land. I think the best we ever did on public, was at the Black Kettle and it seems like it was about a 4-5 covey day, that is plenty birds to have a great hunt but if you have ever seen a 25 - 30 covey day (and some of those coveys with 50-60 birds - saw a couple of coveys of blues that had to have 100 birds in them)), you know what I am saying.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I agree, my best hunts have always been on private. I do not care as long as they are my dogs and wild birds. That said I am giving the Waurika Lake WMA a go this weekend. I will let you know how it goes.

Cool, we will be up at our place Saturday & Sunday. Come holler at us, we will be on the back corner of the motel.

DIY is more fun and challenging to me. I've hunted public land in 4 states and have had great hunts in all of them.
Say When.....

DIY all the way...there is nothing better than shooting a wild bird pointed by a dog you trained...doing it on public land that anyone can hunt on only adds to the accomplishment.
