What is your go to walking rifle.... I am looking for ideas on something really easy to carry, really easy to shoot and in a common caliber.
right now I am carrying a jm marlin 30-30 but im looking for a gun chambered in something like 222, or 223 or something similar.
ranges are at most 150-200 yards and game from opossums, coons, coyotes, foxes, pigs ect ect
dont really care what action just want light, dependable and easy to handle
learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.

CZ 527 in either 7.62x39 or .223... Mine is 7.62x39, and is very accurate with S&B and Hornady brass cased ammo. Just got back from the range and shot 5-shot groups at 100 yards that averaged 1.16 MOA using a Leupold 1.25-4x VXR scope. Was using front rest only. I'm quite pleased with the rifle and it's very light even compared to my Tikka.

If you want light get a t3 in your caliber. I think the t3 is to light so I would look at the varmint 20" version or a rem tactical and make sure the twist is 1/8 or so. If a gun shoots over an inch it should be used for s tomatoe stake

Tikka lite or CZ 527 get fit the bill nicely.
Howa is introducing a light weight 223 on a shorter action this year that would be nice as well.

Ruger American Compact in 7mm08. Soon to be American Predator in 308.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

There are a bunch (many mentioned). Any compact bolt action that fits you well. If ranges are short a Winchester or Marlin lever action is the best walking around gun in existence to me. I don't see how folks can consider a bulky/unwieldy AR a good "walking around rifle". But I am a fogey.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I like my savage model 99. But it mostly hangs out in the safe now.

It says "lite" in the name. Chop it down to 18" and enjoy!

Thinking maybe a tikka in 223 might be in my near future... Or maybe the cz 527 which seems like it might be a little heavier but still short and handy.
Either way will likely have a 2-7x33 scope of some type
learn something new everyday and you will have never wasted a day.
