Past the rednecks, hillbillies, pot growers and big foot. Does anyone know how the hunting is north, north east of Antlers is? Between Antlers and Tuskahoma.
Thank you

If you where referring to South of Antlers, you'd have left out "trespassers and poachers" LOL My brother has a place outside Ft Towsen

We have a lease in the timber hills about.23 miles ne of antlers. Great deer but hard hunting. Late oct during muzzleloader season bucks are running wild. Bears roam through in sept and we lose feeders everywhere. Yotes run wild. Killed a 5.5ft western.diamondback late oct. See them everywhere. Pigs run around without anyone to keep them in check. It is wild up there.

10 years ago you could buy mountain land there for $100/acre and rich people from the city (OKC, Tulsa and Dallas) have pushed the prices to over $1k/acre for anything listed by an agent. The locals that use to hunt the land for free are now left to fend for themselves. They make $20k/year on average and can't afford the leases.......so, they poach without conscious. I know a few people that live there and this is really how it is.

Spent a good bit of time in the mountains north of Antlers just past Moyers over the last dozen years or so with family and friends. Gorgeous country with a good amount of game and have thought about getting a place up there myself just because of it being so remote compared to other areas. However like others have said, due to trespassing issues, I'm not sure I'd have a hunting place up there.

Ramsey and I are on the same place. what he says about how wild it is is absolutely true. its the closest place to my home where I feel I can go and be in the middle of nowhere. the bears are a pain in the butt. They destroy everything and I can't stand them. There are some 140-150 inch deer roaming around but your average deer won't get older than 3.5 and 125". There is a tremendous amount of pressure, and hunting in timber country is tough. Even with the downfalls i still love it and cherish every moment i get to spend up there. We are NE of Antlers.

I have land up that way and the locals think they have a God given right to trespass... sad really.. course, they mostly vote Democrat around there so that explains a lot

Got a friend who owns land near Antlers in the Quchita mountains. In April 2013 there was 12 of us there for a bachelor party, we did some HEAVY drinking and then a bad storm rolled in, we woke up missing 1 truck and 5 ATV's. Thank god they didn't steal mine, my tent had collapsed and flooded so I slept under my truck, I was to drunk and couldn't find the keys to get inside. It was probably best that I was drunk and the thunder was loud, it would have ended bad for them. Anyhow, we have had way too many problems over the past 12 years up there and no way I would spend any money trying to hunt there. Oklahoma is full of poachers no matter where you go, my family has 6000 acres north west of Enid and the poaching is horrible and the game wardens don't play fair when it comes to out of staters.

We hunt 96 acres in Atoka, Ok (a little bit west of a Antlers) and I can echo with redundancy what everyone else is saying. Fantastic hunting potential often ruined by the natives and their tendencies to trespass, poach, vandalize, and thieve. Even the "honest" neighbors have a hard time hunting without following a "it's brown it's down mentality". Muzzleloader opening morning sounds like the battle of Gettysburg; Rifle opener more like D-Day. Nothing is safe from these people. I've watched this ARCHERY season as a doe with twin spotted fawns hopped the fence and headed away due South, heard a loud gun shot, and for the remainder of the season watched the twin fawns fend for themselves; only one surviving the season as best I can tell. In Texas, that may have been handled by calling a GW, but we have found that isn't too effective up here. All that being said, in two seasons I have killed my two biggest mature bucks: a 13 and 11 pointer, and have seen more deer from the stand than any location other than some Hill Country areas.

Lot of factors come into play when having land hours away from where you live. It isn't just Oklahoma.....lots of places in Texas get poached just as bad.

Poachers know no boundaries since they are in every state.

Hunted up in Push county for a # of years on large ranch. Did have visitors from the Public Hunting Land which bordered the ranch. Got some very nice bucks & does off the ranch. We never had problem with thieves since our camp was behind locked gate and a goodly distance from road. When we broke camp nothing was left behind other than shooting range. Do have dogs chasing deer thru the property. Thieves up there are nothing compared to the ones in East Texas. I was on lease in East Texas for a # of years, and finally gave it up and got on lease in West Texas. Wonderful folks in West Texas.

I hunt up that way and have very little in the way of poachers (only 1 that I know of in 4 years) and I've never had anything stolen. I know all the neighbors and we look out for each other pretty well. There are some nice deer and turkey but gun and muzzle loader seasons are short. I bow hunt so its no big deal to me.
