I have been looking at bullets to reload for my 6.5 Creedmoor. I love Berger hunters for my .243 and love the performance.
For the 6.5 I have looked into Hornady SST and Amax because they are much cheaper. I have seen some good stories on here with the Amax's, has anyone hunted with the SST's? I am a little hesitant to hunt with the Amax bullet because Hornady does not recommend it.
Rifle is still being put together, just getting reload supplies ready.

I've killed a bunch with the Amax. Never messed with the SST.

Haven't shot the SST bullets in years. Performance on game I like the A-Max better than the Berger VLD so far in the 6.5-284. But then I also like the Accubonds in it. But they are more expensive.

I shoot 129 SSTs in my 6.5 Swede. The are very accurate and perform quite well. I've never had a pig or deer run. DRT!

140 because you can probably go buy a box of it and not have to reload for 26 a box.

140 A-max, even with the lands (if it'll still fit in the mag) atop +/- 42.0 gr H-4340
Or a 140 Berger hunting. The Berger may need some attention tweaking seating depth.

140 A-max! I've had lots of customers take all the Texas critters, and even an elk.

I shoot the SST's out of multiple 243's and they're killers. I'd rock those (or an Amax) out of the 6.5CM in a heartbeat.

Cup and core bullets took and still take all kinds of game. There are better bullets for the big critters these days though.

In a 260, I used the 120 Barnes TTSX this season, which worked fine.
Right now, testing with the 100 gr. TTSX looks like it will be the choice for next season as it delivers +250 fps or more velocity out of a 22" barrel, which higher velocity is better for the Barnes.
Very pleasant on the shoulder.

I started with 120 gr Nosler BT's in my 260 and then transitioned to the 100 gr BT's. The idea was that most of my shooting is pigs and coyotes and just the occasional deer, and I got more MV with the lighter bullet (I had a real short barrel). I was a bit apprehensive about the lighter bullet being enough for deer, but that has not been a problem. I do think that the heavier bullet is more effective, in that deer run shorter distances before they fall down, but dead is dead.
If I was going to shoot a mule deer, I might swap back up to the 120's for that hunt. My central Texas deer are pretty small, so a fellow doesn't really need the big medicine.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

I have shot deer and hogs with the 123gr Amax and it will do just fine.

Only had my 260 a few months, but the 120 Nosler BT worked great on a cull WT buck and my almost 21" Blackbuck. Even catching the offside shoulder, I had between a nickle and quarter size exit wounds. Neither went over 20 yards.

Looking at getting a hunting rifle in this caliber as well. Does anyone recommend the 120 GMX? I would like an all purpose round for hunting within 400 yards. Hear lots of good things about the sst and amax, just curious as the GMX looks promising especially if you plan to hunt bigger game or make shoulder shots.

No reason it should not work, though I haven't used it myself. In the Grendel reloading manual it is one of the bullets recommended for game up to elk by guys that have used it.

Appreciate the suggestions. Looking for factory ammo. I don't load myself.

Hornady GMX, SST or AMAX. Nosler BT.
Those are the options I see, of those if after bigger critters like elk would try the GMX otherwise Nosler BT or Hornady SST for hogs and deer.
I keep reading here about so much ammo for the Creedmoor but unless you go for some of the custom loaders like ChadTRG42 or reload your bullet selection is not that great when you think about all the great 6.5 bullets that are out there. Sure there are a few other bullets loaded but finding that ammo is a challenge

That does look good. I've been thinking about reloading but haven't found to many good hunting bullets.
