Stories it could tell ?? Not much. "My owner was careless, lost me in this pasture"
Or could be " My owner was riding across the prairie when a band of Comanche's that had left the reservation found him" Lots of options Thats what I was thinking as well, happened allot in early Tejas. By the description of the barrel, anyone have a clue what type rifle and or manufacture? It would seem possible with an octagon barrel changing to standard?

Photos like this is why I guesstimate the rifle to be a Stevens Falling Block. I'm no expert, but lots of similarities..

That is a neat find. With that caliber it would not be a military round. Some one personal hunting / plinking round. Might send pictures to Texas Ranger Museum in Waco, or West Texas Museum in Canyon, or even Stevens. GL
This boy's rifle is a scaled-down version of full-size members of the Stevens line. From the late 1800s, Stevens Favorite rifles were often a boy's first gun and a standby for trappers and varmint hunters. Production ceased in 1940.
Probably some youngster got his butt whooped when he lost it. Awesome find!
