I'll be plucking like a old hen before long, have gone to pork and yard bird. I know the drought has hurt but beef has gone out of sight thanks to the ethanol hiking corn prices. It's a joke. Diesel prices are down but food is getting higher. soap

I grew up on pulled pork in Arkansas. I never have caught on to brisket over pork. I'll eat brisket but it's not my favorite. I'm having leftover sliced pork loin tonight. It's $1.99 at Kroger about once a month. I keep an extra one in the freezer. I'll slice a few boneless pork chops off them and roast some.

yeah I refuse to spend 4.99 per pound. I love brisket, and would smoke one ever weekend if I could. With that said, as soon as I see them go on sale, I will be buying 3 or 4 of them.

I started making pulled pork about 3 years ago. Much better than brisket and cheaper now for sure. I only buy briskets for making into burger when I can get the on sale around a holiday. You have to remember that every carcass has only 2 briskets but they can have up to 30 ribeyes, 24 t-bones, 12 sirloins depending on how thick they are cut.

There was once a shack in smithville that smoked a lot of different cuts of beef. I'd stop by every time I was in the area and get a T bone before it was done.

Chuck roast, but again, you're looking at ~$5/lb.

Paid $1.33 for some nearly out of date pork butts the other day, was quite happy. I've seen brisket (in Lubbock) recently for as little as $3.68, but that's still WAY to high.

To the guy above, corn prices are way down/ethanol production has little to do with the prices. The 2011-2014 drought that killed/led to massive herd reductions is much more to blame.

Feeders are off from their high for the year. Help might be on the way.

SAMs and Cosco. Most of the time you can't find a brisket graded prime, mostly choice and select. I'd go choice unless the prime is too good to pass up. The drought killed the cattle market. Going to take a few years to recover. On the pork sub.---well pork is pork, and beef is Texas.

Spoke to a rancher not long ago who is building his herd up after selling out in 2011. he is paying a high price for his cows but according to him, beef prices are expected to be high for the next 3 years.
Course pork is not cheap if you watch the price of bacon.

Been getting bacon on sale for 2.00 to $2.50 for a 12 oz package for the last several weeks at Minyards and other places for the last two or three months. Check the Wednesday ads. Like Oxner, I was was born and raised in the solid South (Tennessee) and always had pork. Brisket is good, but pulled pork and ribs are preferred, especially with southern cole slaw and BBQ beans.

Smoke a pork butt to an internal temp of 203. Make pulled pork sandwiches out of that. You'll thank me later.

Had it last night. I used the pan drippings to make my sauce with vinegar and cayenne.

I bought a prime brisket last night at Costco for $4.39/lb. All they had were prime briskets but most of the time they have choice and prime.

$3.99# for prime at Costco in Houston a few days ago. Was over $4 everywhere else for choice or select.
