I have a few WGI bucket feeders and I was wondering if anyone has the same issue where the corn doesn't funnel down and will eventually just sit on the bottom of the barrel and the feeder will just run without throwing corn.... I was thinking of maybe going to Home Depot/Lowes and buying some sheets of aluminum and creating a funnel, anyone have any other ideas?

I've done it with galvanized tin, cheap and easy. Snips and a few pop rivets.

To much funnel and you'll have a "quart" feeder Metal, or possible use a can of that spray foam insulation and try to form it as it cures?

I'd skip it. There's no more corn built up at the bottom of the barrel than space you'll lose by putting a funnel in. Then you gotta worry about that funnel getting crossed up in there and blocking the hole.

I've had funnels in the past, and every single one of them wound up being a PITA.

This make sense on a small bucket type feeder. I have had excellent luck using funnels in 55 g drums though.

That's what I'm talking about, the 55'ers. had a plastic funnel and a tin one. Both would get kattywhompus if you poured the corn in and hit the side of the funnel. The plastic one at least had tabs that would stick down the hole to try and keep it centered, until it warped in the summer heat and they went above the hole. Same thing, listed to one side and covered the hole.

After fighting them and fighting them, we finally waited until the feeders were dry, took them out, and threw them into the fire pit. Look at a barell that doesn't have a funnel, and how little corn is actually left at the bottom. That corn takes up way less space than a funnel would. Waste of money, IMO.

I use one, just so the corn that is left, doesn't sit there and get old. Has worked for me fine and I haven't had to reach down in there to scrape the corn out. The funnel I have, has a lip that protrudes a bit through the bottom hole, so no place to maneuver to.

I have had feeders with funnels and without them. The ones with them, I always attached the funnel to the barrel sides with self tapping metal screws. I then sealed the screws with caulk. I always used metal funnels. On the ones without funnels I would end up having issues with the leftover grain in the bottom if I did not clean them out once every so often. It made a nasty stinking mess of moldy grain the bottom. Feeder would still feed corn but not as efficiently when then molded grain got to large in size.

Go to Mummes or Lyssy & Eckels in Hondo and look at their feeder funnels and feeder building supplies. They will have a couple of choices for barrel funnels. Used to carry a heavy duty metal one and a lighter flashing 3 piece funnel you could make to fit the barrel size.

I have used funnels made out of styrofoam that slide into the 55 gallon barrels and they work great. Easy to use and work for a long time.

I have to agree. You have to fill a bucket every 2 or 3 weeks even if you have it cut way back on timer.
Just give you feeder a whack once in a while to knock that old corn out or dump it once in a while when you refill it.

I used to worry about needing funnels. You don't really need them.

I have read somewhere that you can use greatstuff spray foam and then shape it to be a funnel after it dries. Haven't done it yet though.
