Okay so when the season is over and it is time to pick up the trails cams for summer do you leave the batteries in the camera or do you remove the batteries while not in use?

Always remove them from any battery operated device while not in use. Used batteries have been known to leak and will destroy the device. My .02, for what its worth.....

This I agree since I have had 2 cameras ruined by leaking batteries. Rayovac are the worst. I have even had them leak in the summer heat.

Remove and freeze. I use lithium batteries which cost $10 for 4, I just finished the second season of using them and out them in the freezer until needed. Our cameras have taken thousands of photos on the same batteries

Hmmm, never heard of freezing batteries..... if I ever change to lithium, will have to try. Duracell copper top have been good to me. After season, let the kids use what's left in them in toys or whatever and start fresh next year.

Now I'm wondering how many people leave cameras up year round. I do. In answer to OP's question though - take the batteries out when not in use. That applies to all battery powered devices.

I live where I hunt, so a camera is a 24/7/365 tool. Every now and then I'll get a leaky battery.

Our cameras have taken thousands of photos on the same batteries They recommend not freezing or refrigerating batteries made today, said it causes condensation in them.

X's 3, if for any reason I turn them off (or any battery operated device) I do like the others and remove them. I store them in a small box at room temp.

This month's issue of Consumer Reports says the same thing. Freezing or refrigerating alkaline or lithium batteries is unwise. Back in the old days, when everyone used carbon-zinc batteries, the batteries lasted longer when kept cold, but with alkaline and lithium batteries, you're just wasting refrigerator space.
