Since I already have a 7-08 and 280, why not a 7mm RM? Other suggestions welcomed, about the only thing I do know is Horizon is going to do the build.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Since you already have the 7-08 and 280, I'd go 300WM, if it's a long action and magnum bolt face. Push a 208 A-max, 210 VLD or heavier bullet fast, and it will hammer stuff. The 280 is pretty close to the 7 mag. About 150 fps.

Yea it's a LA Mag, and another part of my dilemma is I have a 300 WM in a Sendero with a threaded brake that I do not like. It's way too heavy for my liking and with a total length 28" bull barrel it limits me when I take it hunting. Long term plan would be to get this Sendero re barreled to a more manageable length and lighter contour.

Unless you already have a very capable big bore I would look at the 338 WM. I think it's an excellent cartridge that's often overlooked. The high BC bullets are available and can carry serious energy at long range.
Or .375 H&H for nostalgia. Well, nostalgia or elephants or what ever you might want dead. I never had an elephant problem in my yard when I had my H&H.
The recoil on both of these is very manageable compared to some of the supermags some have.

Another vote for the 300WM pushing the 208 Amax or the 210 VLD. I run both in my 300 WM and it hits HARD. I shoot the 208's most of the time, and they are running 2938 fps out of a 27" Lilja 1:10".

300WM, covers a broad range of game and ammo can be found most places in a pinch.

Those 7mm's are nice at all but you need something with some pizzazz

If you have one already I then suggest to go for conversation starter 7mm RUM, 26 or 28 Nosler.

For reference sake, my go-to gun is the 7mm-08. I picked up the action for what I thought was a good deal so might as well make something out of it.

A 280 AI is almost equal to a 7RM. a 375 H&H would be my choice since you have a 300WM
