So I have a 300wsm that was just built for me and though it has great glass on it right now (Meopta Meostar), I'm trying to drop the weight of the package by getting a lighter scope. I'm a little torn between a Swaro Z3, a Leupold VX3, or maybe a zeiss conquest HD5 though it's a few ounces heavier than the first 2. I'm leaning towards just going with a 2-10 zoom to save on the weight though I'm tempted to stick with a 4-12. What do you guys think and do you think that 10x is plenty for hunting deer and bigger with this gun out to about 500yds? Thanks in advance.

I'm setting up a 300 win mag and seriously considering fluting the barrel to save some weight so I won't be limited on the scope I put on it. My old eyes really like at least 16 power on the top end.

I'd also keep the glass you lik and get the barrel fluted assuming the barrel is heavy enough for it to matter. Probably cheaper than a new scope, and it will probably save more weight.

The build is complete and chose not to flute based on the gunsmiths recommendation with that weight barrel. The Meostar is almost 22oz so there's def room for losing weight based on a lighter scope.

Vx3 4.5x14 or smaller with CDS since you know your gun and load or you could move up to a vx 6 in e same power.

I'm not familiar with Minox yet. How do they compare?

Haven't used a cds yet. Do they work as advertised? I'm biased to a BDC type reticle right now.

I like them but you will need to know your actual bullet and speed.
Bdc sucks

Even if you don't order the custom knob the standard that comes with has elevation marks on the dial. You could learn that if you switch up ammo.

I like the size and weight of the Z3 own 2. If you enter your load data on the website it will provide you the distance each hash mark represents. After entering my data I took my rifes to the range and hit steel out to 600. I then printed the data and keep in hunting pack, before hunt review and all that is required is a distance to target. For a true hunting scope it gets my vote. I do not like the cds system because if you carry your rifle a lot the dials can move on you. Last hunt I found the elevation dial had moved 4 clicks up. The cds is out and another Z3 will replace it.

I hadn't thought about the dials moving. This rifle will be packed a lot so that's a def concern.

It is something to be aware of as you plan this out. I had high hopes for the cds but after using it in field just not for me. Dials have a place, just not on my hunting rifles. Who built your rig?
