Anyone know about the overall hunting in Turkey,TX real close to the caprock? I am looking up that way for a lease and don't know anything about it. Thanks in advance.

If your wanting to hunt whitetail I wouldn't waste your time, that being said you can shoot a good buck but there just hardly none there and very boring hunting very. And closer to caprock the more mule deer you get. I was on a 10k acre place and only one to tag out out of ten guys. Only two mature whitetail bucks were on that ranch on camera as well. If I had a choice go to Clarendon or colligsworth for deer numbers and just more enjoyable hunts

Umm, I disagree that there isn't any whitetails or big whitetails, I'm on a lease close to Turkey, this is one of the bucks taken on our lease this year:

This buck is on my camera last week, I was trying for him during season, but never showed while I was looking for him:

We have more mule deer than Whitetails, however there can be some quality bucks of both species around Turkey...

You can shoot a good buck but it's boring hunting and that whitetail was shot in turkey just north of it but only one mature buck I saw

Can be really hit and miss up there. Not a lot of numbers and definitely need a large number of acres per hunter. I have some buddies that hunt about halfway between Turkey and Clarendon that have shot some good deer. Also know a guy who shot a monster closer to Memphis a few years back. I love that country though.

Turkey TX is an awesome area to hunt-if you find a lease and need an extra give me a shout! I'd love to hunt up in that area again sooner rather than later!

Very nice! I am going to give the lease a try. If you have any other pictures with mule deer or whitetail I would love to see them. I also wondering about the scenery in that area, along with the terrain. Thanks

Ok my friend. Now I am very excited. Do those muley's come to feed, like corn & protein? Looks like you had a great season! Thanks for all the pics and info.

My Son and I were invited on a mule deer hunt on a 28,000 acre ranch between Estelline and Turkey. We both shot our first Texas mule deer in 2 days of hunting. Saw plenty of mulies, hogs and quail. Very few WT on the ranch back then. Now I hear there are plenty. I love the area and would go back in a heartbeat.

Yea where you went is a pretty good area, there are more whitetail over towards that way, now wouldn't say a lot, may see one or two maybe a day depending on spot or ranch but the farther west the more mule deer pick up and drop the whitetail. Unless you are on top land in between turkey and quitaque
