I'm making this tonight! You have inspired me. I looked everywhere at HEB for the puff pastry EXCEPT for the frozen section so I didn't find. I'm gonna make the pastry from scratch in a little bit, hope it turns out. Might post some pics if you don't mind.....

Well, here is the finished product. I didn't get the bread quite right and overcooked the back strap a little but was still pretty dang good. I think I will use the frozen puff pastry next time to compare. Seasoned strap with fajita seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder. Sauteed mushrooms & onions in butter & Port just like you did. Served with seasoned potatoes & yellow squash. Good stuff! Can't wait to improve on it.


I used whole grain pastry flour and our own Falfurrias Sweet Cream Butter, the butter flavor in the crust is pretty awesome. Took close to two hours to make the bread. Fold in butter, chill in fridge, fold in, chill etc 6 times per the directions. Once I get this pastry figured out I'm gonna be making some homemade breakfast sausage & cheese kolaches!
