Generally anyone that writes about NOT being an "a$$" as stated above, usually is doing so.

Pass the gravy.

He mentions .22 and .40- I don't think those two are typical 200 yard guns. If he does shoot pistol, and doesn't build it right, and sometimes if he does build it right--those bullets are coming back.

You interpet it as you see fit. I could give a damn.

I only watched steel swing about a thousand times this month and about a hundred all day today. So I think I can share from experience. If that rubs you wrong, move on.

That is correct, I'd like something to use on pistols as well but long range is my main focus. The short range ones need to face down correct? Long range the gong is fine?

Don't ridgid mount them at any distance. Hang them from hose or baler belt. Even pistols at 7 yards wont ricochet if you do that. Do wear eye protection, of course. But a fragment might come back, not an intact bullet.

if rigid mounting then angle mount the closer targets for pistol shooting just to be safe. Here is a good article worth reading.

Don't know if this will help, built a target frame/gong combination. Probably should have used hardened steel instead of mild steel, but it works for our purposes. Plates are two layers of 3/8" steel, for 3/4" thick plates. Heavy enough for everything from .22's to shotgun slugs.

the pits in the steel like in the picture above is where it's gets dangerous from a ricochet perspective, use steel hard enough to maintain a smooth service.

I will never shoot mild steel again for that reason. I have tons of mild steel plates at work we use for tent weights that are about an inch thick. me and a buddy were shooting at one at 200 yards with a m1a and we were getting ricochets bad.

Actually, I appreciate you experience; but you prepare for the probable and expect the impossible. I've
Witnessed a shot missing the target, hitting the brace, and the .45 bullet coming back, whole. I've also been involved in a pot load of deaths, accidents, intentional killings, and lawsuits where someone is coming after a nice fellow like you. Bullet glances edge of target, goes across the pasture to some people at a car race, hits a person-he comes for your farm, sorry, but it does happen.

I dont call you a liar.

Here is where the 180 degree plane of shooting needs to be maintained. 90 degrees from the barrel on each side should be free of unintentional "targets". And I was referring more to rifle range steel targets 200 yards and out.
