Looking to build a 6mm Creedmoor to play around with and for the wife to shoot. I know H4350 is king but it is also unavailable at the moment. So what would some of you that are shooting it recommend? I have a lot of Varget but I think it will be too fast for tge desired 105gr hybrid. I can get IMR 4350 but it seems to be less temp stable. I'm not sure what to go with next that will give decent temp stability yet allow for a good case fill too.

Hybrid 100V, H4381 would be 2 to look at if staying in the Hodgdon line.

Alliant Reloader 17 is one that should fit well and is one of the ones they changed for better temp performance.

I thought about both of the 4831's but I'm not sure if they won't be too slow especially since I'm thinking 20-22" barrel. I have some so I might give them a try. Have you used any of the RL17 since the temp stability change? I haven't but would be very interested to know if it is a lot better.

RL17 should do well. The 6XC that I run and 6CM are pretty close together and the reigning concensus for the 6XC is between H-4350 and RL-17, however H-4831 and Varget do have some proponents.

Haven't used the RL 17 but have heard good reports on it since it was changed. Have some good results from 100V in the 6.5-284

I'm shooting 4831sc in my 6slr...I'd think it would work fine. Matter of fact, the guy I bought it from started load work up with hybrid 100v and said it was faster...I have thought about trying it but the 4831 has shot well enough I haven't. Might be good for case capacity though...I'm right on the edge of crunching powder with 4831sc.

Not sure if it's just my propensity to look at powders out of the normal "Go To" powders but I have not tried H4350 yet in my 6mm Creedmmor even though I have some. When I got my Horizon built 6mm Creedmoor I loaded N160 and Alliant 4000 MR and the N160 worked so well I decided to use that until I run out.

I just started using Reloder 17 in my new AR 10 in 6.5 Creedmoor and it seems like it's going to be a good choice.

I have some imr 4350 and 4831 I might give a try before going on a powder buy binge. I think I will poor over the 6xc data and get a idea of other acceptable powders since there isn't much data for 6mm Creedmoor besides the 4350 stuff recommended by GAP.

I used 42.5grns of IMR 4350 with a moly'd 115 Dtac which yielded 3030fps out of a 24" tube........

Well I have some 105 hybrids headed my way so I think I'll just try the IMR 4350 out first. 6xc seems to be really close in case capacity and has a load listed for varget which would be a great option since I have a lot on hand. I'm going to get in contact with Berger and see if they can give me a starting point.

Berger is very conservative in their numbers, at least in their manual. I normally start where their max is and go up.

You could probably post on the hide or 6mmbr and someone with quickloads could run you some numbers?

I've noticed they seem a bit conservative compared to my other manuals. After a lot of research it seems a xc is down a couple grains in case capacity on the Creedmoor and they have the xc getting 3000 with a 105. I'll be stoked to get 3k since I'm planning on a 22" barrel. I did pick up a pound of rl17 and H4350 today but don't know how reliable the source will be.

Can you believe 1200 cartridges in the Quickload database and the 6mm Creedmoor is not one of them. Just makes calculations take longer when you have to add in a cartridge

Thanks. I am a bit surprised it isn't listed as popular as it's become.

I didn't know you had that kmon1. No, as popular as that cartridge is becoming I'm shocked.

JVON had a copy and would help...may he rest in peace.

There are a few of us on this forum with the Quickload program. Got my latest copy in December to be compatible with this PC running Windows 8.

JVON was a member of a private group we have on Facebook for Prometheus owners. He had a lot of good ideas and info. His passing was very unexpected. He is missed.

On the original post, H4350 is what I use in my 6mm Creedmoor. I've got 6 pounds of N160 I've never messed with that I'll probably list for sale for local pickup. Just a FYI if you decide on that and can't find N160 either.

I'm going to give the H4350 and RL17 a try right now. If neither work well with my barrel length I might hit you up.

Call me dummy but I have shot a 6mm Remington for many years. I keep seeing the 6mm Creedmoor mentioned a bunch. Would someone mind telling me what it is? Thanks for the info. I have been reading a lot of the post about reloading and everyone seems to be very knowledgeable when it comes to center fire rifle. I have only dabbled into shot shell reloading and will leave that to the people that know more than me. Lol.
Thanks again.

Booner, the 6mm Creedmoor is a wildcat cartridge, just a necked down 6.5 Creedmoor. It is a shorter bodied and different shoulder angled case that gets very close to the same velocities as the 243 and 6mm Remington. The 6.5 Creedmoor case was designed to feed well in the AR-10 platform and be efficient for target use to 1000 yards. The 6mm version is efficient and will reach 1000 yards with heavy bullets and a fast twist for them with a little less recoil than the parent cartridge.

Thanks for the answer, I've been doing some research on it and it sounds very interesting. When I was really young my cousin Mike used to shoot a .22 Highpower as I remember it was called, I was just a kid but I think I was told it was a .30-.30 necked down to a .22. make any since? Mikey was the best shot I have ever known. Thanks guys for sharing reloading tidbits and I will continue to enjoy the read.

IRRC the 22 Savage Highpower and 219 Zipper were both based off he 30-30 case. Been a while since I thought about those rounds though. Guess I could get up and consult Cartridges of the World or google but do not feel like getting up at this time.
