Going to the lease next weekend to weld together a skinning setup which will be more like an enclosure minus the doors. My plan is 10-12 feet high in the front and slopped down to about 9 feet in the back with a depth of about 8 feet and width of probably 10 feet. All metal construction. Then i will tin all the sides and top except for the fron. Concrete the floor with 2 french drains under the pulleys for easy clean up. I would like to see some pictures of your setups if you got them so i can visualize what i am thinking in my head. Thanks guys. Also i know my plan may seem a little elaborate and overkill but i have some skill sets and my company pays for me to be on this lease with the owner and CFO so i wanna make it as nice and accommodating as possible. feel free to critique my idea if you think you have something that would make it better.

Needs to be tall enough to allow a deer to hoisted up high enough to skin all the way down to the neck with out stooping over.

if you had to put a guess on that height what would you guess closer to 15 feet tall? Heres the issue i am taking apart an all metal 25 foot tall windmill base that isnt being used for material for this project so i was starting small to make sure i have enough material.

At least 11-12' for cieling at the lowest point where you hang a deer to work on it. You can get by with it lower but if you are doing 2-3 deer your back will thank you for making the ceiling a bit higher.

Ok thanks for the help. I was going to have a 2 pulley/ 2 crank setup to do 2 deer at once but if i run tight on material i could always just make it a one crank setup.

I would think minimum height at base of the pulley to be 10 feet, 11 would be better. What area do you hunt and how big are the deer? Mule deer might even need to be a bit higher

As said above, I would go 12 ft. High for sure. Bending over to skin gets old in a hurry.

I was going to go all out and build a covered skinning rack but went with this instead. I love it so far. Its about 11-12ft tall and 7ft wide. 3'' square tubing. Used angle iron to mount lights on. 2 crank winches and 4 fixed pulley type devices welded onto the frame with tabs over them so the cable doesn't move around. bolts together at the top.

If you have access to a front end loader just hoist it up on that.

very nice. How did you mount the lights? Does that position/angle work well for the lights?

Cable on the left and above my head comes down to the floor and goes under the tackle that is lagged to the floor and than up to deer. Cable deer is hung from is on a separate winch. Frame is adjustable up to 14 feet high and is on industrial casters. 14 feet allows us to handle pretty well anything up to and including moose. This is the best pic I had and shows most of it.

8' should be tall enough, as I've skinned many deer in my garage with an 8' ceiling, just pull them all the way up
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

If you have the budget and material I would suggest building it with a winch. Position your winch and pulleys in a way to allow for the winch to skin the deer. So much easier than having to skin it with a knife.

I have a pully on an old oak tree. Then I skin it with a my truck in 5 seconds. No hair no mess.

Maybe not what you were looking for but, you see that Dr Pepper on the table. About 20 minutes ago I discovered Dr Pepper flavored candy twists at Academy.

That looks good..Are you going to an electric winch or a hand crank winch?
