There are tons of them.

What are you looking for (pet, hunt tests, hunter, field trial, show, etc.?) Where are you located and how far you willing to drive and spend?

I looked on this forum often when I was looking for my pup last year. There are various facebook groups too that are geared towards selling retrievers you could follow.

RTF puppies for sale

Good luck.

I'm going to be looking for a chocolate or white lab for my family pretty soon, I'm familiar with bird dogs breeders and trainers but not so much the lab side of it. Anybody have some good recommendations? I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to buying a dog so I really like to do my research on the breeder, training, and bloodline before adding a hunting partner and family member. It will live with my parents but I'll be using it to duck hunt as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Not trying to stir a debate but I find that part of your post contradicts the remainder. Color of the dog should be the last factor that comes into play. Health clearances and the lineage should be a priority. Everyone has preferences just make sure they come into play in the proper place.

I don't care if the dog is purple, weighs 30 pounds, with three legs if it can get the job done. With that being said great dogs come in many colors. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I agree with you. The problem is it's actually for my parents first and foremost, and they would prefer a chocolate or white. If it were me, I wouldn't care. When I buy a bird dog I pick a breeder, the best litter they have and then whichever dog I like best regardless of size, color, or sex.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting a specific color and then finding a great dog from there.

If you're considering a chocolate, you have to look at these guys before you make a decision. I got mine through there several years ago and he was outstanding. Haven't kept up with them lately but they used to be one of the tops for chocolates.

There are many options depending on pedigree, etc
Do your research and ask questions. I got my pup May 2014. He is at the trainer now so looking forward to this hunting season to take him out. It's a lot of work to find what you want. Good luck!

It takes alot of time and research to find what you want. Research and ask questions.
Joining a hunting club may help as well as they have members that are breeders and trainers

Call Tioga retrievers up there north of DFW, see who they recommend. You might speak with Glenda Mitchell out of brownwood as well.

Do your research!! Talk to as many people as you can. Visit different breeders. Theres tons of breeders in texas. some good some not so good. see if they have the proper health clearances. Look at both parents and previous family blood lines.
