Youngest son is wanting an affordable digital NV for his Volquartsen .22WMR to aid in his quest to thin out the coon and predator population on our place. Shots would generally be under 100 yards (likely no further than 150yds).

The Photon XT 4.6x seems to be getting good reviews. Just wondering if the Photon would be a practical and predunt choice or if spending the extra coin for the N750 would be a better investment.

Obviously neither piece of equipment is high end, but he'll definitely want the best bang for his $$ in terms of resolution, being able to ID target, reliability, and repeatability.

Anything else in NV under 1500 worth considering?

Thoughts, advice, and recommendations from those with first hand experience welcomed.

Much obliged.

Personally for that specific setup I would go with the Photon. The smaller size of the photon would be welcomed on the 22 WMR. At the distances you are planning on shooting the Photon would do just fine. Add an external IR onto the Photon and you should be good to go for some night time coon and predator slaying!

Your son would love our product call Digital Crosshairs. It is a rifle scope attachment that adds digital night vision to a standard scope. The complete kit starts at just $400 including a long range focusable 850nm IR illuminator with batteries and chargers. It also has a video output port for recording and a optional WiFi transmitter with App for your smart phone or Android device viewing. A big benefit is since this is a scope adapter, you can use it on several different scoped weapons.

Our product comes with a patent pending rail mounted LCD display for targeting. Don't let the price fool you. It is made in Stone Mountain, Ga. not China. We us digital technology which is cheaper than tubes. Check us out.

Stx,
Does that work? Can you record on the iPhone with it?

I have the Pulsar and the Photon XT. I would go with the Photon XT. I would avoid the DigitalFOV and let some other sucker be the guinea pig for it. As can be seem from their own promotional stuff, they don't have the ability to actually keep everything in focus and none of their demo material shows anything at any real distance.

With all of it, you will want a good external illuminator.

My son ended up placing an order for the Photon XT 4.6x and a UNV 20-IR.
Held off on the lens doubler kit as most of his shots will be well under 100 yards (60-70 typically).

Received the Sightmark Photon XT 4.6x42mm yesterday afternoon from Bearclaw. While it's certainly not Gen 3 NV nor Thermal, for just under 500 bucks plus add a good IR illuminator it's impressive. Will easily meet my son's need for busting predators and varmints within 150 yards.

Looking very hard at the Photon 4.6 with a 'doubler' and good external IR.

My understanding is that there is soon to be a 6 x 50mm version as well.
