What brass and primer are you running? Some of those loads are very similar to my results also.

Most of it is Lake City brass with a mix of Winchester, CCI, and Remington primers. Mostly Winchester as the CCI primers can be tough to seat in the military brass and Remington isn't as common in the store.

I was surprised Varget didn't do well.

When you tested Varget, what was your method?

Interesting about the Varget, what load were you running? My 20" 9 twist like 24.0 gr with the 77 SMK.

I will grab some AR Comp and CFE, I think I saw some last week.

Thanks for the info.

55 grain with 27.5 grains of Varget. 2.25 COAL.

I guess it's important to note that I didn't get to it until at the end of my 3 hour session and was experiencing some eye fatigue. I was also rushing these shots somewhat.

I'm not sure it can beat the CFE 223 or 4198 loads anyways, so no loss if it doesn't work. I still have some IMR 4064 loads to test so I'll try it again next time.

Only one of those I have used so far is CFE. Use it in the 17 Remington. Good accuracy and velocity. What I really like though is not having to clean out copper, run 25gr bullets at over 4200fps things will foul.

If you just pick a powder charge to try, there's no way of knowing how well it will shoot. A proper load work up should find a good load.

I'd shot it with an unmagnified Aimpoint before and it did decent. I have several loads with Varget to try. Just didn't get to them. It might do better with heavier bullets. At this point, it's just to see what works so I can use up the pound I have while getting decent accuracy. I really like IMR 4198 because of the accuracy and soft recoil even though it can really only be loaded with a trickler. Varget is scarce here anyways.

The good thing about my setup is that I'm not relegated to one powder.

AR Comp seems to be a cleaner more stable version of Reloder 15 with slightly faster burn rate. From my experience.
I like it better than Varget.

You'll like the AR Comp better since it has shorter granules than Varget. Better for using a measure.
