Not sure this will help anyone or not.

I think the GHG Pro-Grade wigeons are some of the best looking wigeons on the market. Just my two cents.

I picked some up last year and used them this year. Upon first inspection, the only thing I did not like about them was that a small tip of the wing or tail feathers was glued on to the body. I figured oh well, the ducks won't care. The problem with the glued on section, however, was not what I imagine most would expect... they didn't come lose, break off, or anything like that. The problem with the design is that for some reason, some how, water is able to leak into the decoy body at the juncture between the body and the glued on piece. For most hunts, this did not cause any problems. If it was raining, however, and water was constantly hitting the top of the decoy, it would slowly take on water (I do mean slowly... never enough to actually tell a difference on the water).

Macks is happy to exchange / refund them for me. I called GHG as well, and they apparently have had a lot of people complain about this. They suggested just to caulk around the glued on feathers. The good thing is that they have changed the design for next year. They have done away with the glued on piece and are going with a one piece design.... why they did not do this to begin with is baffling to me... something must have been cheaper or easier or who knows.

In any case, if you have the Pro-grade wigeons, you might check to see if they take on water at this point. As for me, I'm returning mine to Macks and I will replace them next year, once GHG puts out the new and improved design.

What did you think of the new paint scheme?

I did not see any pictures or anything. This was just a phone conversation with GHG. My guess is that the new model will look the exact same as the old one as far as paint goes, and that the only difference will be the construction of the decoy without the glued on piece. That is just my guess / assumption.

So, I think / hope the new ones will looks just as good as the previous model.

GHG did not offer any replacements, my guess is because they know there is a problem and they are phasing out of the old ones. Maybe this is just their policy, I don't know. Macks was happy to exchange / refund.

Wal, I know you are a G & H fan. Frankly, since they are an OK company, I wish I was too. Unfortunately, I like the looks of the Pro-Grades about 10x better than any of the G & H decoys, though I am certain the ducks don't care. I had hoped GHG would have done something about the problem. GHG should have done something about it, especially since they know it is a common deficiency. I know G & H would have and Higdon would have.

Fact is, GHG Pro-grades look a lot better in my opinion. If Mack's were not so accommodating, I'm certain I would be more upset with GHG's failure to do anything about it.

I've never found a paycheck on any of the wigeons I've killed. Must be the darn amateur grade decoys I'm using.

Think of how many you could have killed with "pro-grade" decoys.

I second the part about Higdon standing behind their product. I had a pulsator short out because the wires broke and they sent me a new bilge and timer for it with just a phone call.

Have you seen the G and H widgeons. I think they are the cats arse so far as realism. The other plus for me is you can buy all drakes. I would rather have the bright white and colors of 12 drakes than half of them being dull hens. I noticed this last trip to the coast at how much more visible the widgeon heads were compared to the others.

Those are pretty cool. I like the fact they are American made. At least the outllet is in Ohio, I am assuming they are Murica amde.

Both are made in Ohio, I used the fowlfoolers this year and heard a lot of good stuff about Steve Stocker's decoys from other hunters.

The burlap ones are pretty neat.

Wal - I have seen the G & H's, and I just don't think they hold a candle for realism. I'm not saying they are not a great and functional decoy, or that the company is not top notch. I'm certain they are. Maybe next year we can hunt over your G & H's and you can show me the light. yingyang I won't even bring my GHGs. Between my Hillman's and your G & Hs, I'm sure we can kill something other than our bank accounts.

All that to return to the original intent of this post... if you are thinking about buying some of the pro-grade wigeons, you might wait until the beginning of next season to do so. Or, if you have some, you might double check whether yours leak or not.

I sm pretty sure I would like that. My problem with commitment is time. I have several really good friends on here and we struggled this year timing a hunt. One has a wife expecting anytime now, the other has new house and job and just got complicated really quickly. Hopefully with the toon boat we can expand the possibilities.

Last time I used mine they didn't leak. Never really fond of the design though because it looks prone to breakage. They hid in the closet all this year though.

To me Avery isn't to fond of replacing things. I tried to get a sticky bumper replaced years ago and eventually called up Gander and told them about it and they said bring it in we will replace it. I didn't even buy it from them. up

Avery's replacement policy cost them their account with Cabela's. I really like my Pro-Grades but I have all the Pro-Grades I need for now.

Not true at all. I worked as a manager for Cabela's and was directly involved in the waterfowl roll when they moved to the new "Northern Flight" complete waterfowl line. Cabelas desire to increase margins cost Avery their account, it had nothing to do with Avery as a company. When cabelas rolled out the entire line of their "Northern Flight" Cabela's store brand, they chose to get rid of their biggest competitor, Avery. No other brand makes an all-inclusive waterfowl line like Avery, so when Cabela's decided to do just that, they made the logical decision to not sell their direct competition. I am 100% positive on this.

Bottom line: Cabela's makes more selling Cabela's branded decoys, weights, line, game straps, chairs, layouts, etc. than they do selling Avery, so they got rid of Avery.

Not sure I completely trust someone who doesn't know the difference between roll and role but I can say I got my info from a very high source at Avery. Surely you can't deny that Avery's strict return policy didn't factor in. Mack's even bad mouths Avery's policy.
