I would really like to get a good number of coyotes off of my lease and traps sound like the best way to get a large number. But how do you ensure you don't get deer in your traps? I have never trapped coyotes before so any info would be appreciated.

9 out of 10 times they will pull out of the trap If they happen to step on the pan. Usually when targeting yotes your gonna use some gland lure or urine and the deer tend to be a little weary of that. The only sets that you might have trouble with would be blind trail sets but for the most part deer will stick to the trails. Make your sets a foot or so off the trail or roadways and you should be fine, never caught a deer in a foothold in 15 yrs if that reassures you.

Don't sweat it iv ran up to 40 snares on a ranch that was heavy populated with deer.. I can't tell you exactly why but they either see it smell it or since I brush in the traps so small that they don't bother trying to cross there.. I never have caught one in a snare.. Now hog traps apparently don't send the same message.. I did pull them when turkeys were nesting and fawns first hit.. Went to live traps but I don't think it was needed just perinoia

I've trapped for 6 years and have never caught a deer in a foot trap.
