Which 30.06 would you guys recommend? Preferably bolt action and not going to break the bank.

Savage 111 with the Nikon prostaff 3-9x40 package. Usually around $500 depending on where you get it. That's the not going to break the bank option. Even less expensive would be the savage axis II which also comes with an accutrigger.

A little high but no tax or transfer fees. Actually not a bad out the door price for rifle only.

Get the classic, Remington 700 BDL at Wal Mart. If you get tired of the 06 you have one heck of a platform to build on

Weatherby vanguard and Lazerguard have been great shooters for years. I did pickup a Ruger that I loaded for that shoots bug holes as well.

Montana Rifle Company. Pick your preference of wood or synthetic, and stainless or blued carbon steel.

The MRC's are accurate and reliable right out of the box.

That would be it; as he said, right around $500 @ Buds.

I have the Savage in 30-06. Good trigger, very accurate, nice scope. Hard to beat for the money.

Some of these guns might fall into the "break the bank" category. Though he didn't give an actual budget.

I had a marlin x7 that shot very well. I now have a 700 CDL and LOVE it.

I'd go to a Cabela's or Bass Pro or maybe Gander Mountain and actually handle as many as possible. You'll know when you find the right one. Look up the price at a decent online place, like Bud's, and then make the call on where to buy. Online is usually cheaper, but not always. Also, I'm willing to pay a reasonable premium to the local place for the opportunity to touch before I buy.
