I will be helping balance an antelope herd Saturday and I've heard the meat is not that good. I've alway believed in eating anything that I kill. Any suggestions on how to make this meat edible? Also who around here tans hides. I may get one done.

I have killed 3 blackbuck anetelope so that is a small sample, the 2 does were fantastic meat while the buck my dog would not eat. Have had other bucks that others have killed and would say close to whitetail in taste. No idea why that one buck was not good but he wasn't.
Good luck on the hunt, they are small so do not expect a lot of meat from one.
Hides tanned comes up from time to time but do not remember what place is always recommended. Bet someone chimes in with it though.

That's great to hear. I have a choice of young bucks or does. I'll take the does. Thanks.

I enjoyed every ounce of my last Bull Blackbuck! He was good. I just put a doe in the processor yesterday. Prep and cooking are always key with any animal

Was at a lodge once where a guy killed a blackbuck just for the head, me and another guy split the meat. It was delicious.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Blackbuck meat is pretty good. I would say its better than whitetail but not quite as good as axis. Only two exotics Ive killed and eaten, so thats the best judgement I can give.

Tastes like chicken to me.. The few that I have eaten were all great tasting. I think with any wild game how you handle it and how qickly you take of it after the kill is key.

I gave away most of the blackbuck I've gotten. It's about the same in taste as whitetail. It is a little chewy though. I will probably kill one more for the wall with my bow. Then no more.

I killed 2 bucks this year and processed them both. I love the meat, they are grass eaters like cows and axis. I dont cut them into steaks i only grind them for sausage ground meat, chili and such.

I am amazed at how many have posted that blackbuck is no good. I prefer it over whitetail and I eat about four of each animal per year, bucks and does. Along with a few axis. We like to keep a ham or shoulder whole and do it up as a roast. The burger is excellent with about anything.

Only time I have tasted a bad meal of blackbuck was from a bad cook. Don't make it into steaks. Jerky is excellent. Stew meat, hamburger, butterfly the back straps or try a standing rib roast. Its more lean than whitetail or axis. There is not a lot of meat, but it's good.

You can make dang near any ungulate taste okay if you grind it and mix it with enough seasonings. I like the steaks. Due to heart issues I eat venison most of the time. Get a beef steak two or three times a year. So deer steak on the grill is my favorite. I would rather have a Missouri whitetail over a Texas one as they eat so much corn and soybean and the flavor is so different but I would choose Texas whitetail over blackbuck any day. It's not the flavor is that much better but the texture and toughness of the blackbuck is less desirable to me and my family. Now axis or red deer . . .

I use to hunt a ranch north of Rocksprings that had a ton of Blackbucks. Never shot any but does. Does were always good. They are grazing animals. The mature bucks can be tough like an old whitetail. If you want to get a hide tanned try North Texas Tannery in Denton.

I had link sausage made out of black buck, it was okay but it definitely wasn't axis or nilgai.

Gee, I love eating blackbuck. Have eaten over a half dozen and they were all good. Can't overcook it though or it gets stringy.
