I am fortunate enough to be going on a Blackbuck hunt this weekend. We are looking to take an 18" Buck. Is there any quick way to judge the length ie. ears are approx. 5", leg length etc... The hunt is un-guided but looking for quality animal. Any help?

3 1/2 times the ear length. With it's head down eating on level ground, the tips of the horns should be even with its back. But that can change a little with the spread from tip to tip. Go by the 3 1/2 times the ear length first.

Curtis hit it on the head. Ears are how I've judged them for years and will get you the best and closest estimate.

I could tell some by when they put the heads back how far the horns go to their back, if they reach close to the middle of their back they are probably big. Then again 22" is real hard to tell from 24". Once they get above 20" their horns get thinner on the ends and can be deceiving. Im sure their ear method works as well.
