I run a pulsar n550a digisite. I've been contemplating a new ir light to mount on it. Looking to get about 200-400 yds with it. Any suggestions from yall?

I have the TNVC Torch Pro and also the UNV20IR. The latter is a bit less expensive and puts out a lot more light. For even less money, you can go with the Streamlight SuperTac IR. It works very well, but eats CR123 batteries rather quickly.
The UNV20IR uses 18650 rechargeable batteries, which is nice. It comes with 2 and a charger, but uses 1 to work.

Torch Pro uses CR123's that you have to continually have to purchase and you cannot use rechargeables. The UNV 20 IR comes with rechargeable 18650's that you can use over and over.
The Torch Pro comes with a cap that has no pushbutton. You screw it in to make it come on and screw out to turn it off (I lost one), no dimming. You can get a cap that clicks on/off for another 40 - 50 bucks. The UNV 20 IR has a cap you tap to change low-medium-high (dimming). It clicks on/off.
The Torch Pro focuses down just a little more, but the UNV 20 IR puts out more light and allows you to see further.
If you add the clicky cap to the Torch Pro you are about 100 bucks more than the UNV 20 IR and you still have to buy expensive 123's...forever.
The Streamlight Super Tac IR is the budget buy. As stated, it puts out a lot of light, but you can't dim it or focus it. Focusing would help greatly with reflectivity, particularly in tight quarters. I also agree with the statement that it runs through 123's rather quickly.
200 yards is getting out there for any of these and it is about the limit for your scope. I'm not thinking you can do 400 yard shots with the mag of a 550a.
Anyone of these 3 illuminators will improve your image greatly, but owning them all, the UNV 20 IR is your huckleberry.

Thanks guys for the replies. Was wanting the light to be able to scan out that far, but pretty sure I wouldnt be able to make a shot at that distance with my current scope.

You can replace 2 CR123's with one LC18650 rechargable battery.
edited to add: I see my post is a bit vague. If the light you want comes with two CR123 batteries, you can get a pair of re-chargeable LC18650's and one 18650 will replace the two CR123's in the light.

Not always. Depends on the driver and the light. TNVC has always said no to rechargeables, even 123's. However, I am positive you don't have either the Torch Pro or the Tac IR. If you did, you would know that a 18650, being larger in diameter than a CR 123, will not fit in either one. This is quite often the case with many lights.

Nope, don't have either of those lights, but one of the three I have that came with two CR123's in it works just fine with the single 18650 that came in the other two. Of course, I'm not trying to shoot 500 yards at night like you cowboys are. 100 yards is plenty for me.
edited to add: do you know what being "a huckleberry" means?
