If a fella wanted to shoot a buffalo in Texas and wanted to do more than pull up in a truck and pull the trigger, where would he go, or is that even possible?

Have some big bulls in Kerrville... Not a canned hunt for sure in a 2000 acre pasture and they are pretty wild... Also you may want to check out Rusty at Big Iron I spoke to him last year and he had some good bulls then. Not sure about now. Good luck

I am not necessarily after a trophy bull, actually really wanting more of a meat hunt, but I hate to just drive out and shoot the SOB off the side of the road.

Price for a bull hunt vs a meat hunt?

We have a lot of bison, but I'd be lying if I told you its a hard hunt. Awesome experience and tastes better than any game animal, but not a difficult hunt like some other animals. We got a bunch to sell and if we can get them on trailers we would live sell as well.

"Hunt" or not, I would love to have a freezer full of meat and one mounted over my fireplace.

I have a feeling when you get to about 10 yards that adrenaline will kick in for you and the Bison too!

Buffalo are not very wild even in the wild.. I have hunted wild buffalo and the hardest part was getting it into the truck after it was shot..
So do not get to hung up on trying to find a hard hunt, just have fun..

I used to apply for a Utah Bison hunt on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon ever year for at least 10 years. I never got drawn and finally gave up but it was supposed to be a very challenging hunt. This was over 10 years ago so i don't know if its still even offered!

I sent a PM AND called the number. No response to either as of today.

That by all accounts is a hard hunt in 2 ways, drawing the tag then a hard hunt if you are lucky enough to draw a tag.

One thing as big as they are the work really starts once one is on the ground.

OK, seeing as how I am never gonna run em' off a horse......I see the light now, all I want is a freezer filler. Being a tightwad and not wanting a trophy, what would be a low dollar way to go?

If you want a more challenging hunt, then I would suggest looking to the ranches in South Dakota. I've talked with a few guys that have done that and they just don't stand there when you stalk them. If you had the time, Kodiak Island in Alaska has a free ranging buffalo herd. The price for hunting Kodiak is not much different than hunting the Dakotas.

You can also check out Sikanni River Outfitters up in British Columbia. They have access to a free range bison heard. As wild as they get in this day and age. They only get like 6 permits to hunt them and they hunt them in the Fall. Could be nice and warm, could be freezing a$$ cold and snow. Just depends. But they are a wild herd and free ranging.
