Considering one for several reasons, one of which is shooting it suppressed for small varmint control, so it must have a threaded barrel. Other than the Ruger American, which models should I be looking at?

Why not concentrate your efforts on finding a good shooter and then have it threaded? Good chance you will find a good shooter among some of the earlier .22s and the price can offset the threading cost ? JMHO

I bought the Marlin Xt22
Reasons why
1. Bolt action and tube fed 2. Will cycle short, long or long rifle 3. Inexpensive 4. Target trigger - idk if it really is, but it's a nice trigger for a cheap 22
My only complaints
1. Adjustment screw on trigger is made of play dough - super soft 2. Iron sights were put on off center. Had to install a scope
I thought the ruger Americans were ugly I considered Savage, and probably would have bought one if I wanted magazine fed
There are really nice target 22s, but they are too expensive for me.

I do recommend the bolt action Marlin XT 22, beware, extra mags are impossible to find off shelf. I ordered 5 extra from marlin with no hassles. They came within a week so not really a bid deal. I do like the set up a lot. If you are gonna spend another 500 on it to barbi it up, this is not the gun for you. Never had a jam w/ cheap 22 ammo.

I got a CZ 455 22lr varmint for Christmas and it will touch holes easily at 50 yards, can also get a couple other barrels for them since they are interchangeable. I may get the .17, but good right now.
I went through this all last summer and did a ton of reading, pretty damn happy with my decision on the CZ, great build quality and the wood on mine is the nicest Walnut I have ever had on a firearm.

He wants to run it suppressed.. I'd say look at the Savage Mark II..
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

I have a Savage Mark II FVSR. Change the stock, add a scope, good to go.

My suppressor is approved, just have to go get it. Waiting on the stamp from a second suppressor to arrive so I can pick up both at the same time. I got my Savage back in June. Kentucky Gun Co had them on sale for $199.99 at the time. It's a sweet shooting rifle.

You ended the discussion right there! If I could only get my hands on one The only can I have is a 22 suppressor and I have one of these savages too. After fiddle carting around with some other host guns, semi pistols included, this is by far my favorite choice. To me, this is the most perfect solution. I am no bench shooter but it's nuts on at 50yds and I still think I do well out to 200. Even then, I feel it's not the gun, I feel like I'm not shooting well enough. In case u can't tell, I LOVE this combo.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Cz! Dome of the American models have threaded barrels. Perhaps the varmint too. If not and you want a varmint profile barrel, send it to Morgan at DSS.

I have a CZ 452 trainer. I love it, great iron sights on it too.
Mine is not threaded and I do not know if they have models that come threaded. If price was not an option I would buy a CZ and pay the 50 bucks to get it threaded.
Otherwise the Savage Mark II's are great, but you will probably want another stock if you get the synthetic model, thats another $100.
