Hello everyone. I've been creeping the site for a while now, and since adding Bailey to our family about 6 weeks ago, I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm from the North Dallas area, and this is my 13 week old GSP Bailey. She's been fantastic and has fit in with the family like she's always belonged. She's been pointing since we got her, retrieves as far as I can throw, LOVES going through the woods, and lives to cuddle with the kids (son 10 and daughter 8). I've hunted behind plenty of GSPs, but Bailey is our first to take home. I'd absolutely welcome any advise along the way!!! Bailey 7 Weeks Bailey 8 Weeks Bailey 12 Weeks

Start researching GSP trainers in your area, then visit their facilities and ask for references.

Cute pup.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Nice looking pup! Make sure you exercise her daily, it will make her easier to live with.

Your first mistake is letting her sit in your lap. My GSP is 7 and weighs in at 69# but still thinks he's a lap dog

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

OMG what a beautiful girl! She looks like a natural too. Y'all are going to have some great times together!
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

#1 only one alpha person in the family, You , her hunter, all others just love her, play with her and no one besides you makes corrections. 2 take your time and do not rush her 3 All basic obedience commands one word and compliance.

This is a good idea if you want her to run all over your wife and kids.

Thanks all! Barney, she's definitely a lap dog now whether I like it or not. I am finding that with GSPs, a calm patience is needed to a greater extent than with most breeds. Along with lots of exercise I've also discovered that when she gets tired in the late afternoon, it's DEFINITELY kennel time. All worth it! I'm always open, though we have found a trainer out of Kansas (John Prince) that we are really impressed with. After talking to him a few times it was evident that training dogs and helping people are his life. He's been a wealth of knowledge and extremely helpful anytime I've needed anything. I want to train her just as much as I can as I think it not only teaches us both but also bonds, however I also want her to reach her potential. Thanks so much for the comments and tips! Keep em coming as I'm just trying to be a sponge at this point.
