Hello all, is there a way to check online if a gun is stolen or not? I know I can take it to the police station and all but id rather check online if I could. I took a handgun in on trade some time ago from an older gentleman, I have no reason to not trust him but Im thinking of selling it and want to know 100% that its clean. Any info would be great, thank you much.

I wouldn't go through the trouble. Sign a bill of sale if you are concerned.

There is no public access to the database the police use to track stolen firearms. You will have to call the police station and see if they will run a check over the phone, or take the weapon to them, or be fortunate enough to have a friend with access to the database.

Be prepared to have it taken away if it's hot

I understand that pawn shops can do it.

Thank you guys for all of your input, I had forgotten that I have a custermer from work thats an ex Wise county deputy and still has ties with them so I contacted him and he was able to run the numbers thru Wise county sherrifs office and it came back clean. Once again thank you and now I feel much better about it.
