I had breakfast this morning with 68rustbucket. I did not relate this tale.
In 1996, I had two pointers. a three year old male, and a female pup. We set out for the Chaparral Wildlife management area early one morning. It is somewhere over 100 miles away, so I threw my coleman stove, bacon, eggs, onions and 'taters in the truck along with the dog box in order that I could spend the day out there and have a meal at noon. The pup rode in the cab with me.
The morning went well. We never moved a bird that I know of, but the dogs had a ball running ahead of the truck, and investigating and learning about the great outdoors. About noonish, I chain ganged the dogs in the shade, and took a nap for an hour or so. When I arose, I cooked and ate my meal, then turned the dogs loose to galavant and explore while I cleaned my skillet and put things away.
Nature called. No time to resist. I grabbed for some paper towels and headed into the brush. I remember trying to keep my balance as I repeatedly swatted behind me at whoever or whatever was persisting in coldnosing me.
Back at the truck, I called the dogs in, put Buddy in the crate, and lifted Tess onto my truck seat. To my horror, I discovered, my truck seat, my bare arms and hands, as well as the front of my shirt were, shall we say, contaminated. I had to ride like that until mercifully, we found a water trough to take a bath in. What a mess.
Another reason to keep your dogs out front of you!

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I laughed ouload. My dog has a habit of rolling in ...um...stuff. If I ever have to go in the field I make sure to cover it in a pile of stocks, stones, and brush to prevent such an incident.
