Heading down the 13th-15th for a either sex hunt and hoping to best my last buck from down there back in 2003!

So for anyone that's been down there what units did you hunt and did you see any good bucks? Any particular tactics help out more then others.

Also I'll be looking for a place to stay and don't expect any hotels to be available so any tips on places to stay? Do they have any slots in the Parks that you can stay at?

It's been about 10 years since I've been there but I have heard from other hunters that the Hwy 99 area is not as good as it used to be. The areas around the main headquarters are supposed to have some BIG deer in them.
If there are no motels in Tilden or Three Rivers then you may have to camp out at the Calliham units or south shore unit. Take a tent and thick sleeping bag if its cold. Good luck!

I was down in compartment 15 again yesterday and spooked a couple of does while I was hunting doves and rabbits. I've seen large bucks there and in other compartments, so they're around.

Depending on how far away you're willing to stay, the hotels in George West range in quality from decent to indecent. Pepe Boudreaux's on Hwy 72 is an OK restaurant, as is Taqueria Vallarta in town.

How did the hunt go this year? I went on the exact same hunt last year and got a good buck. 10 pt 20" wide. I think we hunted in compartment 10 if I remember right.

Had a blast on the hunt.

Saw probably 150+ deer and shot a 130" ten in the last hour of the hunt. Spent the entire rattling and rattled in 40-45 bucks and saw probably 4 others bigger then the one I shot. 2 were not old enough, talked myself out of shooting a 140ish straight 11 since it was in the first hour of the hunt on the first day, and saw a monster high tailing it when I was walking through the unit.
