During the summer of 2012, South Dakota suffered a severe drought, along with y'all in Texas. That drought really hurt our pheasant population over a two-year period. This past season we saw a tremendous rebound in the population, and we again had a great hunting season. However, last year was not an ideal nesting season, as a large percent of our fields which are normally planted into winter wheat were not. Winter wheat is our number one nesting habitat!

This year the crop rotations are catching back up with the normal winter wheat acreage, so I'm expecting to see a very good nesting season and hatch for the 2015 hunting season!

If you're interested in pheasant hunting South Dakota, please check out Ringnecks Hunting Lodge!

The weather has warmed up and melted the snow away, and I went out and see the pheasants have survived the winter real well! Things are setting up for a good nesting season!
