In 1979 and 1983 I hunted a late season migration hunt north of Yellowstone. It was incredible watching thousands of Elk migrate thru the mountain passes. It's a shame, that they don't even have the hunt anymore because of the severe decline of of the elk numbers in Yellowstone since the re introduction of wayyyyyy to many wolves. ID love to go back with a couple wolf tags in pocket. Baker

Those look like a wintering herd, if your brother is out feeding livestock, he may need a few extra bales!! grin

up Also at 100%, but includes opportunities I have passed on all on PL. Your set up sounds great, get to visit with the brother, have a good time and put some meat in the freezer, sounds like the perfect vacation up

Is that a BLM feeding station? or does the state DNR take care of it?

BTW, make sure and give me a few weeks heads up before we go! grin

Wait, wait, wait, wait just a minute!

The Utah dude from the awesome thread that I didn't get to post in had us all convinced that you had to drive hundreds of miles and walk hundreds more up and down mountains in Utah to see an elk.

You know, "real" hunting.

I'm a confused man now.

i dont remember utah dudes post but last year we took snowmobiles 10 miles from my brothers house until we saw tracks thrue the snow, once we found tracks we turned off the snowmobiles.then we tracked them up and down vallys until we found a small herd which was about 2 1/2 miles in 3 feet of snow.it took 2 days to get them out.so yes in the right time of year you can drive down a well driven road and see them but when season opens they scatter and you have to put in the work to find them.the year before we were on horses, and the year before that i was on foot just depends on there food water source, weather, hunting pressure you never know.
