On the last morning of doe and spike season I get to my hunting area and open my gun boot and it was empty. I often leave my rifle in my gun boot overnight but I forgot that I took it out last night. The first braze of light was creeping up in the horizon so it was to late to go back to camp. Loaded only with my trusty 7 1/2 inch barrel ruger 45 I bravely sit in my stand hoping for a pig to step out within 50 yards. But as hunting goes I will probably just sit in my stand for the last time this season wishing and hoping. It was a slow season for animal movement but I had a great year of hunting.

What's bad is when you get 30' up in a tree in your tree climber on opening morning and realize you dont have your release. Been there.

I always practiced with fingers also just in case the release malfunctions.

At least you didn't drive 200 miles and remembered that you forgot your rifle! Did that on my very first elk hunt to New Mexico. Borrowed my cousin's rifel when I got there!

I would have just climbed on the feeder and waited with my buck knife.

I'm a terrible shot but I follow up with a grenade!

My dad used to go to Colorado deer hunting every year. One trip, he hiked almost a half mile from camp before he realized he left his ammo in the Jeep. He saw the biggest buck of his life walk right by. He went back to camp, got the ammo and went back, but never saw that deer again. When he got back to Texas, one of the first things he did was to take off the butt plate, drill a couple of holes on the butt stock, and slip in a couple of cartridges, just in case it ever happened again.

No more than a release weighs I always carried a spare. Would hate to see where my arrow would hit using bare fingers.
