Looking for owners of kimber solo to give opinions on this pistol. How long have you owned? Would you buy again? It's really caught my eye after deciding to buy a G26. Now I'm really leaning toward a solo.

I have a solo. Did a range report on here. I carry it all the time in a Desantis superfly in my pocket. Its got its pros and cons. Pros are it looks good, its light enough and easy to conceal. It functions well and is accurate with 124g Hornady ammo. Cons are it is definitely not a range gun. It is snappy and the trigger guard will bite you. And of course the cost.

Knock on this gun was(is) that it will only function with 124g "fancy" ammo. While that is what I load it with for self defense, I took a variety of 115 to 147gr ammo to the range. Including some steel cased junk. It fired all of it with only a couple hiccups with the real cheap stuff. All of the "fancy" self defense ammo ran through it without any hangups.

Can I recommend it ? Yes I would but only if the money is not a problem and you really want a Kimber. My wife carries the G42 (obviously a .380) and it not only is lighter, less expensive, and easier to conceal, It also functions flawlessly with any ammo put to it including cheap Russian steel case. Never a failure with anything ever. Was quite impressive. But not a 9MM if that is really what you want.

I like mine but sometimes think the price was too high.....

I have owned the G26 and G27 and while great reliable guns they are to wide for convenient concealment. I've held this gun and I'm real impressed with the concealment aspect of it. I too have been thinking of getting one.

Thanks Murph.

Thanks for the detailed review. I just bought my first kimber (pro carry 2). I really love the look/quality so far. I had my mind made up to get a G26, but after really liking my new kimber it got me thinking of a solo. I want a 9mm. The main thing I've read is the solo would FTF, FTE, and the safety felt uncomfortable. I definitely want something I can shoot at the range, but main purpose is small 9mm to carry in my travel bag and concealed once I get my chl.

Definitely a good conceal. Not a good range gun. After about 10-15 rds I've had enough and go back to the Sig 226 or the CZ 75. Recoil is bad on Solo. I also have the Custom Crimson Carry in 45acp and can shoot that all day at range. But full size 1911 frame. I would have to say find someone willing to let you test it out at the range before diving in, if you really want to run a bunch of rounds through it.

Recoil is snappy with the defense loads, but no more than any other handgun in that size with defense loads. And, no, it is not a range gun, but it was never designed to be one. It is never going to be a 1911 or a P226 or a block, was never supposed to be. It was designed to be a CC gun which it is excellent for, you can put it in your pocket. I have had mine for several years and put probably 300 rounds of golden sabres through it, and it goes bang every time. I carry mine every day and would trust my life to it. Every time I go to the range to shoot my "range guns" I usually run a few mags through mine just to keep myself familiar with the feel and functionality of the gun.

So, if you think you want a gun to go plinking with, don't buy it. If you want a gun to carry that is easy to conceal and goes bang when you pull the trigger, then I would definitely recommend it.

I love mine. Reliable and concealable; effective caliber.
Carry it every day in a Kramer pocket holster in the front pocket.

Don't get the "Jam machine" solo. 938 or g43 if you're going tiny 9mm are standard. I like the colt mustang as well in that price range. If you want a pocket carry kimber, get the Micro Carry.

The 1911 style ones all have better triggers and the glock is no slouch either. There are many better options than a solo now a days.

I wind up buying the Sig P938 Scorpion. So far, so good. Love the way it feels, looks, and shoots. It has a manufacturer date of march 2015, so hopefully all kinks have been fixed.
