I have always heard that shooting comes a little more natural for women, I believe it after this past Sat night. I was guilty for 20 yrs taking the daughters hunting and teaching them to shoot. People have asked the wife lately if she has ever shot anything and she replies that I have never taught her. With the kids being grown now and her and I going to camp this past weekend to clean up the RV and bring it home for summer fun, I saw an opportunity to teach her. I took her and the 22-250 to the blind for some jackrabbit target practice. She has never shot any gun other than a pellet gun. So we did a little lesson on breathing, eye relief, cross hairs and a dry fire. About 15 mins before dark here comes a rabbit. He comes out and stands with its back to us presenting her with a narrow target. Remember that she has never shot before, ever. She gets on this rabbit and BOOM, rabbit down. IM so pumped and she acting like no big deal. She hit it square in the back of the neck almost removing its head at 109 yds. I am hoping that I have found my new hunting buddy. grin

We are married for 46 years and my wife showed little interest in hunting. She went with me once 20 years ago on a hunt in CO and shot a doe. Even with that she expressed little desire to go again. Didn't push her. We are now retired and bought our own place and rather than sitting in the cabin she has given it another shot. For the last 2 years I have a reliable hunting partner. Still waiting for the shooter buck however she has gotten a doe, a turkey and a nice hog. She has patience and is intense. She now shusses me if I sneeze or make any noise. Figures she now has a nicer rifle than me and attractive pink camo!!!!!

That's awesome! Taught my girls to shoot with the same 22-250 I learned with 35 years ago. Ruger M77 and it's a tack driver and only gets better with age. My boy is next in line. Congrats to you for coaching and your wife for making a great shot.

Best Hunting partner you will ever have up Just wait till she really gets into it and wants to learn more about guns and go to the gun shows with you. Then you can buy guns together grin who cares if they are "called" her guns as long as she lets ya shoot them banana

Congrats on teaching your wife to shoot. A lot of memories to be made. I taught mine to shoot and started taking her hunting and now every time a new hunting catalog or sales flyer comes out, I always hear: "Look honey, there's a new gun that you can buy me". Love hunting with her and couldn't ask for a better hunting buddy.

My wife's father taught her to shoot and hunt when she was a teenager.

She's a great shot. Probably better than I am, I hate to admit. On Saturday evening at 6:02 pm, with just minutes of legal shooting light left, she dropped a spike from about 145 yards with a perfect front-quartering shot that left him lying dead on the pile of corn he had just been nibbling on. Hell, I bet if I'd looked, the dang thing probably still had corn in it's mouth.

Mine started about 3 yrs ago. She's killed hogs and multiple doe and this yr her first buck. The only bad thing about it is that dinner used to be ready when I got back to the house. I still is during bow season but once she can hunt forget it. You'll enjoy the time together.
