I purchased a Lyman 1500 when I started reloading last year. It started out working decent enough but now it really drifts a lot and can range about half a grain. Point me in the direction of a better scale please. I don't like sitting there watching the weight change every second.

I have the RCBS Chargemaster dispenser and scale. Love it, even if it is a bit slow.

One thing I have noticed with my scale is that you really need to have the plastic cover closed while it is dispensing and weighing - this keeps the air from moving around and giving jumpy readings. Make sure you don't have something influencing the scale - moving air or even fluorescent lights can give bad readings on electronic scales.

I have the same scale and had that happen one time. I recalibrated it and had no further problems. I also calibrate before each use as is suggested by Lyman.

I calibrate before each use and sometimes between each load to try to solve the problem. Its becoming very irritating.

If you have a cell phone near the scale, it can cause the scale to misbehave. If you're out in the sticks and get a weak signal from the tower you'll need to keep your phone further away from the scale. I have to keep mine a minimum of six feet or so away from my electronic scales.

That might not be the problem you're having, but it can happen.

Try plugging it in for a while, few hours or so, before you start loading, seems to help mine quite a bit.

For the money and what it does a Chargemaster is the best thing going right now in the scale world.

If you want more accurate than that the budget is limitless...trust me...I'm in the process of getting the +/- .02 grains without drifting. In that realm the GemPro 250 is pretty good but it will drift...I recently bought an AnD F201i or something like that. I posted a great price on it back in December but I haven't loaded with it yet.

Chargemaster.

I asked a bud if I could borrow his for a couple days. He said "nope, if you are thinking about one, get it, you need it." So that's what I did.

50 rounds took 45 minutes to use a thrower 1.0 gr under, then trickle the rest of the way up.

Chargemaster makes 50 rounds take 25 minutes.

Like judd said the best thing going is the chargemaster. If you want better than that it is going to cost a lot of money. There is not much out there sub 1k that is that much better than the CM. If you want the best get a Prometheus gen II, your kids don't need to go to college that bad...

I have the Lyman 1200 DPS unit, which was a bit cheaper than the Chargemaster, and it works fine. If it breaks, I'll get another one. Not going back to throwing/trickling. I'm spoiled now.

If you read the reviews on scales- you can go nuts. Some people use a jewelry scale. I double check against other scales.

Walter...you suck...please don't bring that up...I want one so bad I can't stand it. The speed in which that would increase my production would be insane. But at the cost, I just haven't been able to stomach it....yet grin

Leave it plugged in and powered on all the time, they are much better when you do that.
