Fortunate to get invited for a hunt along the coastal region (TX Gulf coast). Three hunters with no dog. In a days work we found 3 coveys and saw lots of birds. One of the coveys we flushed twice from the same spot about an hour apart. I shot my first and second quail ever, both hens. Missed a bunch of others. Great time and hope to get to do it again.

Sorry no pics as I was in the middle of cleaning birds when I realized I never got any pics.

That is how my first quail hunt was. watch them cross a fence, and note the number of fenceposts between us and them. One of us would stop short of the number, the other would walk past, then turn and follow the covey into cover. Worked well enough that weekend, and it became one of my most treasured memories, but I decided that very weekend that I would have a dog with me the next time I went.

That trip was nearly thirty years ago.

You're a neighbor of mine. I'll bring my pointer and Gator out if you think you can use them. What area?
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Yes it was lots of fun. Once the coveys split up I enjoyed kicking up singles and some doubles. What a rush to see and hear them explode from thick brush, knowing that I played a big part in flushing them. I think they sound a little bit like doves when they first get up, though there are clear, and obvious, distinctions.

I hunt without a dog because I am allergic to them. I don't know of any hypoallergenic dog breeds that are good bird dogs, but I can probably do more research on it. I could still hunt with someone with a dog, that would be okay just for a day....
