So I was going through some old trail cam pics from last year and actually found one of the deer that I killed last year. I didn't think we had any pics of him but apparently we'd just missed him. I killed him about 3 weeks after this pic was taken and he didn't seem quite as heavy when I killed him. Based on his weight at that time and how the mount turned out, I thought he might have only been 3.5 yrs old. Now after seeing this pic, I think he was at least 5.5 and maybe was just rutted down when I killed him. What do you guys think?

Looks older than 3.5 to me. 5+ is my opinion.

Yeah I agree now that I've seen pics of him on the hoof. I didn't have much time to judge before shooting other than knowing he was mature.

Did he really loose that much in November? Got any pics of him right after you shot him? Did a good taxi do the work? The buck in the pic is 5yr IMO

It was in good shape. He was caped and frozen in less than 24 hrs.

I'm not saying that maybe he didn't take out a little from the cape that made it smaller but it's definitely the same cape. Theres a tear in his left ear that I can see in one of the trail cam pics clear as day and it's also on the mount. Definitely the same cape.

I'm not unhappy with the mount guys. It looks great. Was just surprised how much older he looked in pics than mounted. Does anyone think he's not 5+?
