I dial way off my point of aim and do not study the group until I'm done with that load. I used to burn them up if the first two were not touching just to get to the next load test. Only to find later it was a good load and I wasted the test because I pulled the first or second shot.

Just to say it, some years ago I was doing a lot of shooting (off a good solid bench) with my 220 Swift and new Douglas barrel. Wonderful shooting rifle and I was shooting a lot and doing a good job of it. Had some new Norma brass. I was shooting some very small 5 shot groups (under dime size). But every now and then when I'd do everything right, I'd still get the occasional flyer. Was reading a book on shooting one evening and the author mentioned marking questionable cases, making the point that every now and then there will be a bad case that weighing and measuring won't eliminate. He said to mark cases that throw flyers and if it keeps giving flyers, toss it on the ground. I started marking cases and found that I did have a couple that always gave flyers. Now, I'd like to tell you that I never again had a flyer, but you'd know I was lying.
If you are a really really good shooter with much trigger time and are on your game with a great rifle, you might at some point have a flyer that just flat should not be a flyer. If so, mark the case. Can't hurt.

Have an older Remington Mtn Rifle in 30-06 that does that. In my case it's something in the stock. 2 shots and the thin #1 sized pencil barrel starts touching. Trying to put 5 down the pipe at one time causes it to 'walk' up and slightly right. Each shot after the first 2 starts walking up and right. The 5th shot is usually 1.5" up and .5 " right.
Now I put 2 down the pipe and let the barrel cool off. Getting some great .6-.7" 5-shot groups.
Since it's a HUNTING rifle and not a target gun, I'm shooting cold bore for each shot of each 'string'. Once load-work is done I'll shoot a 3 shot group all at once and see what, if any, difference there is. There's usually some and sometimes there's a pretty good change (3/4 inch total) from first to third shot.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.
