Figured this would be a good place to post this question since you all run a lot of 25-06 down that way. Thinking of running the 80 TTSX from my 25 out to around 400 yards on whitetail that normally go 200# and under with most being under. Anybody running this bullet on deer and if so how has performance been ? Thanks for any advice or input.

Several run it in 257 wby's. What 25 are you running? The secret to any monometal bullet is light for caliber and FAST as you can get it.

If your not going to push it well over 3k pfs I would look for another option.

I've used the 80 TTSX in my 257 Roberts. Chronographed at 3400+ fps. I shot a 150 lb buck just behind the shoulder quartering away from me at 125 yrds. Shot placement was good. The deer deer staggered at the shot walked a few feet laid down and expired about 4 minutes later. There was not exit but I did not recover the bullet. After that experience, I abandoned the 80 gr and went to the 100 gr TTSX as I like to full penetration. So far so good with the 100 gr.

The 80 gr was accurate (1.5" @ 200 yd), very low recoil and fast. I would be concerned using it on a heavier animal though. I know one deer does not give much information.

Hope this helps.

Killed oryx, WT, Hogs, etc ranging from 50 to 300 yards with the 80gr TTSX

I have never recovered a bullet yet.

I haven't ran them yet in my 25-06, just 257wby(3850 ft/s)

I have thought about the 100 as well but figured at the 25-06 velocities the 80 should have a bit of shock to it. Just trying to get a feel before I commit to either weight. I know field results are what I need but a couple of deer a year are all I get and that isn't much to judge on.

I shot the Barnes 90gr out of my 257AI for a while. Was pushing it over 3600. I went back to Nosler Partions 100gr.

The 110 AB factory load is the only Factory load that doesn't shoot well in mine also.

100gr SP, 100 tsx and 80gr TTSX all shoot sub MOA in mine. With that said mine is a Remington

Honestly don't think there is a bad bullet in the wby factory ammo line as long as your smart with shot placement. IE don't use the 87 SP on thick bone or the 80gr TTSX at 800 yards etc

Try the 110 grain accubond loaded by nosler instead of weatherby

My mark v shoots them pretty decent

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

That's what I have started with. I can't seem to get it tighter than 2". My expectations for my Mark V are higher and I think they should be. I even had my son ( very good shooter) shoot it and no difference.

This is a picture of an 80 gr. TTSX out of o 250 Savage 15" Encore pistol. Recovered from a 150 lb pig shot straight on. I don't know the velocity but boar dropped in his tracks. I like the bullet.

How deep did it go with that head on shot?

It was straight on but in the chest cavity, not a head shot. I should have been more specific.

Tried them at about 3400 in my 257 Roberts. 5 deer all DRT. Very accurate and light recoil. But can't say that it did a better job than my normal 120's. I did shoot for the shoulder in all cases. I've read that deer will run farther with this bullet than a fast expanding CnC bullet thru the lungs. Pretty thick brush where I hunt....don't like runners. grin

I knew what you meant. Seems like a mean little pill.

I am guilty of shooting too far forward most times so shoulders are the norm but not always. Have wondered just what you said, will a good Ballistic Tip or Gameking through the lungs give the same results but maybe a better bloodtrail if needed.

Anybody else running the 80 TTSX in 25-06 or 257 Roy? Looking for actual results on deer or pigs?

Not the 80gr.

But after testing ALOT of different hand loads and factory I can say that I believe the 100gr. TSX in .257wby with .5 grains under max load of RE22 was the perfect round in my rifle. Averaged 3,500fps out of my 24" barrel and 3,550fps when the barrel was 26".... FYI this load is nearly identical to the Weatherby factory 100gr. TSX load.

This is what's left of a 100gr TSX after killing THREE hogs that were standing shoulder to shoulder.

Bullet entered first hog splitting shoulder and existing with full mushroom, hit the second hog fully expanded and went completely through as well; continued to hog number 3 with full expansion and was recovered just under the skin on the far side of the 3rd hog.

I think 93% weight retention is pretty good considering it killed 3 hogs.

I Also have used this bullet on lots of deer;from Doe to 200+lbs bucks and it always preformed great- You jut have to give it resistance AIM FOR THE SHOULDER BLADE

I am guilty of punching shoulders most times, was hard to break me of that when I started bowhunting and now it is hard for me to remember, behind shoulder with an arrow and in shoulder with a bullet.
