I have everything to build a new large frame AR except a barrel and bolt. I have neither a 7mm08 or 243 at the moment and feel like putting a new rifle together so which caliber should I go with?
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

7mm-08 would get my money.

7mm-08 would get my money. Me to, my last build I was torn between 7mm08 and 6.5. Since I already had a 7mm08 and bullets could be bought that had a high BC and that caliber never let me down, I decided to stay with the 08. Never regretted it. I have 3 of them now and would like to change my AR10 in 308 to 7mm08 too.

In a ar10 I'd go 6mm Creedmoor.

I agree with dee. In the we platform the 6 creedmore would be awesome.

You going to load the ammo for whatever it becomes?

Where are you looking to get a barrel? Some of those chamberings would be a little harder to come by than others unless you're having it custom made. 6.5 CM is available, I think Fulton sells criterion but they are a heavy profile. Lilja does 260, and has a light profile 20" that would be good for a hunting rig.

All are good chamberings. For me, it would depend on availability of a barrel, and how well each one cycles.

My vote is for the 7-08. I have a bolt gun in that caliber and would love to have an AR version too.

While the 7mm08 is great and I love mine in a ar or other oal constrained platforms it is hampered running heavies. While I have never shot a creedmoor either it was designed for this and the 6mm version is even better.

Decided to build me another AR and I am going with the 6.5 CM. I just like 6.5s and have heard nothing bad about the creedmore.
