I know this has been a topic before but.........
Boy do I have coons.
They leave my feeder motor alone now that I have a cage around it.
But they are there every night all night to clean up the left overs.
I know they can jump five feet.
I call them Monkey coons.
All that said, what do you do to stop them from eating all your protein ?

x2 Duke's DP traps and a .22.. You'll be suprised how much longer your protien will last when you've eliminated as many coons as possible.

Find a young boy, teach him how to trap and skin, and tell him he can make money selling the hides.

I have trapped them before, and you have to check traps every day.
That is not possible for me with this property.

if you use kill traps, the buzzards will take care of emptying the trap for you before you get back. Set a dozen conibear traps when you are there. Bait them with Sarah Lee pound cake. They should all be "occupied" by the time you return. The buzzards will empty them for you if you don't empty them first.

Live traps baited with cat food works for me.

This took care of my problem of them using the spouts as a High Bar. I had pics of them hanging by one leg, scooping with the other. Not any more. The teeth panel things are used to join two pieces of wood together, available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. $1 or $2 each. Charlie

Now that looks pretty good and a cheap fix.
I also have read about....MONKEY CHOW.
Some people swear it works.
Not seen any Monkeys out there but would not be surprised, if that is the next critter to show up for a free meal.
Thanks again.

I killed 15 last spring out of one pen with a single 330 conibear. All dead and buzzard food when I got there. Quick, humane, kill and no worries about live animals left in traps.

Trap them. Anything that you use that is ingestible, you run the risk of collateral damage with other wildlife.

If they are "cleaning up the leftovers" I am guessing that they eating the remnants off the ground, something that fawns usually get. The Conibear sounds like a good idea when you are not there. But DP and live trap heavy when you are around. You have to get rid of them. If you have a few on camera there are a lot more. I had 3 on camera at one feeder, I caught 18 there in two months, and many since. Oh, bait them with protein, it is what they came for, fancy concoctions may only attract more coons to the area, and you don't need that.

I use Dog Proof coon traps at all my feeder and water troughs. I set them for 2-3 months then let them rest. Starting to reset today. I have only seen 3 or so coons in all my TC pics over the past few months now. I use marshmallows to start and corn.
