Anyone heard anything about this caliber being expanded out and put on more platforms?
I had one in a black gun and wouldn't mind having one in a bolt gun.

I also want one, but at the current time there are none available without going custom route. At least a couple members have them that I know of one a custom from Dakota and the other one built on a Savage.
Would be easy to convert any bolt action in 7.62X39 to a Grendel since they use the same size bolt head and cartridge length is almost the same. The build I want to do is a CZ 527 conversion to a Grendel which has been done a lot. It was rumored a few years ago that CZ was going to offer it but never happened.
Planning on selling a few guns in the next year to make that 527 build happen, just have to figure out which guns will leave the nest to be replaced by one gun.
CZ, Ruger, Remington.Charles Daily and Savage have all offered or still offer bolt action rifles that the conversion would be simple to convert to the Grendel. Wish one of them would get the bug and offer one up for us.

Seems with the velocity and lack of recoil it would defiantly be a sweet shooter!

That is what I was thinking and be a good light weight, light recoiling 300+ yard deer gun. I think companies are missing the boat on that one. Can you think of a better round for a youth gun or one for those of us that are older and figured out put a good bullet with enough velocity where it belongs and the result is a dead critter, the Grendel works great as a hunting round.

The 6.5 Grendel would be fine as a hunting round. But they already tried the 260 Rem and it didn't sell well. And now they have the 6.5 Creedmoor which seems to get more brands offering it.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

Just do a creedmoor and you get more speed and good factory rounds Not really worried about speed, when I want that from a 6.5 will pull out the 6.5-284 or 264 Win Mag that already have a home. Picked up a CZ 527, now to gather the parts for the conversion/build

My 6.5 Grendel Bolt gun built by Dakota Rifles. Nesika J action, Jewell trigger, Hart Barrel. It was very accurate and great velocity.

Beautiful rifle.
I think the Grendel is an outstanding all around Texas caliber. That's why I had an AR built in one. I like the quick follow up shots. Can't wait to get it set up with some optics and run it through the paces.

I'm curious, as I'm trying to decide what I want to rebarrel my savage to, what are the differences between the Grendel and the creedmore?

As far as rebarrel a Savage to a Grendel Cliffy on here would be a good person to talk to. I know he has done that a time or two. The Creedmoor will always be a faster round than the Grendel larger case burning more powder. On pressure difference, SAAMI spec for max average pressure 52000psi for the Grendel and 62000psi for the Creedmoor Source Max loads for the Gendel burn about 30 gr of powder wile the Creedmoor burns over 40 grains so about 25% less powder. There is data out there for loads with the Grendel running in the 55000 to 60000psi and getting 2700 or a bit more from the 123gr bullet while burning about 32 grains of some powders. The Grendel has trajectory that pretty much matches the 308 with 168 or 175 bullets and is supersonic past 1K so it can get out there if wanted. I have an AR in the Grendel that shoots good and works well on hogs and yotes but just want a boltaction in it for a light weight hunting rifle that will reach out as far or further than I want to for deer, but can be fun on targets on out there. The light recoil also makes for fun shooting. Mostly about ARs which are the only commercial guns chambered in the Grendel, but an interesting read. http://www.rifleshootermag.com/uncategorized/6-5-grendel-evolution/

+1 on the Dakota's good looks...
Wonder if a Zastava M85, or "Mini Mauser" under a half dozen different names, would be easier to convert than the CZ???
The paradign plan is right up my alley...and sounds perfect for 125gr NPT's or some of the Lapua's from 107 thru 123 gr's...Hmmm. Ron

A Winchester 1885 low-wall might work. - They chamber them in .243 and 6.5x55.
Kind regards, charlesb

Charles, that is one that will work for sure. Another way to go for single shot is TC Encore. trick would be getting the extractor correct for the smaller rim size
To get an Encore, if you have the frame already it is as simple as ordering a barrel from one of several manufactures.

Ron, about any of those you mentioned might be easier to convert to the Grendel, the CZ 527 is used a lot for the conversion here though as is the Savage. The 7.62X39 and 6.5 Grendel have common ancestors in the 220 Russian.
The Grendel is pretty much a PPC cartridge with the body extended .076 and the neck shortened some, same shoulder angle of 30 degrees. So it is almost a 6.5 PPC only has a little more case capacity.
The Lapua 123 gr is from some I have talked with one of the best long range bullets for it. The 125gr partition is a great little hunting bullet and I picked up some 100gr partitions that will also be tried. Those little pills at 2800fps should put a good thumping on critters. Something the little Grendel doesn't do is push Cup and Core bullets so fast as to make them into Varmint bullets like the faster 6.5s can. Like a spike I killed this year with a 6.5mm 120gr Ballistic tip started at 3000fps, shot was less than 20 yards centered the white throat patch with the spike looking at me, DRT but no exit.

After reading Pat aka ScenarShooter over on the 'Fire for several years, once I get up and running with the still NIB 260 T3 later this Spring, I'll fool around with some of the Lapua's, and the 123gr'er seems like the best compromise weight, paired with the 125 gr NPT, at first blush for a Texas hunting bullet. Lapua 107's and 100gr NPT's should be screamers with 222/223 recoil levels.
The irony here of the Grendels 220 Russian parentage, is that I met and worked with the P&P's (Feris Pindell & Dr Lou Palmisano shortly before Dr Palmisano passed away) at the Phoenix Show in '83? where we intro'd the factory chambered PPC SAKO AI's.
I also have a couple of the "signed" commemorative coffee mugs on my dresser I use for leftover keys and asst'd pocket flotsam and jetsom treasures, along with a few remaining SAKO headstamped samples of unfirable brass & bullet I handed out to interested dealers.
So I got a real good idea what the Grendel will look like, that I've had for close to 30 years. Might be mo fun to see if I can come up with a SAKO 461 or AI to do a build off of, for old times sake if the bolt face will work. Ron

Same bolt face as the PPC/220 Russian. Body of the case is .076 longer in the SAAMI Specs than the PPC family.
So far all I have shot in the Grendel are the 123 A-Max which Hornady says were designed for the Grendel. I am looking forward to this build and getting it out shooting. Still weighing options on which barrel and Smith that will do the work.

We're going to order some Savage barrels in Grendel. What is the most desired twist rate?
