Hunted today and going back tomorrow to Tullidos, which is between Armstrong and Norias, for those of you familiar with deep South Texas. Today was wet, cold, just plain miserable. I really hoped the clients would cancel. But, the miserable conditions did not seem to bother the quail.
Three shooters had 40 bobwhite on the truck (40 is the truck limit agreed to by biologists, owners and leasees) by 1:00 pm. What a hunt! I lost count of coveys early, but they seemed to be everywhere. I say again, WHAT A HUNT!
Just goes to show once more, the old adage that even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and again.

Did you have to boot? A friend is heading that way Tuesday and he called me asking about some extra dog boots.

I have 'em, but don't like to use them until the last resort. We have been using our English Cockers as pickup dogs, and I have pulled a few stickers out of their long curly ear hair, and "underarms", but the sticker problem in that area doesn't seem severe. We were running several setters at Norias, no real problems there either.

I just got a first hand report from a ranch on 381. Three trucks found 18, 10, and 8 coveys each yesterday morning.

I was deer hunting near San Diego in the valley mid DEC and saw lots of quail. They were all over the feeders and the roads...............

Good news Bill, we head out at noon tomorrow to Raymondville. Word is birds are pretty thick in there this year. First time I have ever gotten to take both my on boys together on a three day + hunt, pretty pumped up

I'm working in the Riviera area this week. Must be some birds this year, seen quite a few guide trucks in the area. Even a large dog kennel trailer at the local motel.

I haven't been on forum to much. Glad I looked today. Large kennel trailer is mine. Birds are plentiful. I have averaged anywhere from 15 to 30 coveys depending on the ranch I have been on. I have been dropping one dog on ground at a time, to eliminate mishap, keep from burning them up, and safety. I kind of got stuck down here and have been making best of it. Thanks to some local guides giving me their overflow. If you know of anyone that needs a dog handler I could use the work. I have a mule that will carry 3 shooters and myself. Thanks- SANDFLAT KENNELS (815) 252-1185
BIRDDOGS FOR HIRE. Will guide you on your ranch in south or west Texas. Getting ground to guide you on if you don't have lease. Still working to find quality ranch with birds to give an abundance of shooting for your enjoyment. CLASS DOGS/CLASS HUNT
