First of all buck was killed on 12-27, just haven't had the time to get around to getting it up.
Anyways, I've been stationed in Abilene since 2004 and have hunted all over the North and West in that time frame but hadn't had the resources or inclination to get a lease here in TX. I got invited by a buddy to hunt his farm in Wichita county and jumped at the opportunity. When we woke up on the 27th we had snow on the ground and it was still falling heavily. We'd checked out several large wheat fields and saw a bunch of deer with one little buck, one borderline shooter and this dude 650+ yards away. We thought if they left the field we'd have an opportunity at a stalk. With the heavy falling snow and strong wind our movements would be mostly concealed. We let the deer feed out of the field and snuck up to where we had last saw him and found him bedded. I ended up shooting him in his bed at 40 yards. The 270WSM did it's job and I had my first TX buck in a winter storm. Now, between us two knuckleheads we had 0 cameras and 2 dead cell phones, so we didn't get any pics of him until we got back to the barn and hung up. The deer ended up being the second biggest WT I'd ever shot.
I also used it as a guinea pig to do my first European mount. I think it came out pretty decent and I learned how to do it easier and faster for the next one. Thanks for looking!
