It's time to rebarrel the Stiller. After years of shooting the 6.5x47, I have decided to go another direction.
My basic formula for a mid-long range rifle still applies. Find a group of bullets around .55 g1 bc, and send them at moderate velocities.
The 105 hybrids at 3k are just too tempting. Around 1.8 mils flatter to 1k, and the same wind call as the 6.5.

My first two 6.5 barrels were a 22 inch (shilen) and 25 inch (bartlein) plus a 9 inch can. This time I have decided to try medium palma 28 inch brux, 6mm creedmoor, no can, no brake.
Brass, and bullets have arrived. Still waiting on dies. I should pick up the barreled action this weekend.

Any other 6creed shooters out there? This should be interesting.

A few picks of the hunting/shooting grounds.

My favorite spot overlooking 850 yards of river bottom.

Another part of the ranch.

Keep us posted as to how it does. I know many guys that have moved over to the 6 Creedmoor for competition, and have been enjoying it.

Another 6.5x47 is in the works. When my 243 icon barrel goes south, it will be off to the smith.

Too much x47 stuff around here not to be shooting one.

I don't have the creed more but a plain old boring 243. The 105 hybrid at 3050fps is nothing short of awesome. Very little recoil in 6mm even better with a brake I can see my own hits at 200. Why did you got with the creed more of the x47?

?

I seriously considered going with a plain 243. I already have one in another rifle (10 twist, 95 berger classics). I have 243 dies, lapua brass is available, giruad trimmer is set up and everything. But for whatever reason, I decided to try something odd in the 6mm creedmoor. We will see if that turns out to be a wise decision.

I hope this Hornady brass is worth using.

I was saying since you already shoot the 6.5x47 why not go with the 6x47 I got a buddy that shoots one and it is pretty nice as well. There are a lot of good 6mm cartridges these days was just wondering what made you decide.

I went with the 243 because of the component availability and stuff is everywhere for it. Plus the less case prep I have to do the happier of a person I am. grin

I see.

I will have another 6.5x47 in the next few years. I didn't want to have two cartridges laying around with the same headstamp. Recipe for disaster at the worst, inconvenient at best.

I took a look at 6slr, 6xc, 6mm dasher, 6 creed, and plain jane 243. In the end, the choice came down to 6creed and the 243.

Gotcha, either way it will be some bad medicine. I really like mine. Not only does it shoot really good but the hybrids work great on game too.

Just read your barrel choice too. I'm am also shooting a Brux. But mine is 26". Are you going to keep it 28" or cut it down.

I was hoping someone had actually hunted with the 105 hybrids. I will give them a chance at hunting after I find my load and get comfortable with it.

Brux came as a 31 inch blank. Finished product will start at 28 inches. It won't be a problem to cut a few inches off and recrown if I decide 28 is too much length.

Shot a ram at about 100 yards. Walked twenty feet and layer over dead. Shot my buck last year and he went about thirty feet. Shot a spike this year and he was drt. Right behind the shoulder and came out through the middle of shoulder on exit. Broke the shoulder and liquified the heart, works for me...

Do a little more reading on it. The 6 creed more is a little more efficient than a 243. I'm getting 3050 out of a 26" I've seen other people getting the same with down to a 22" in the creedmore. My next barrel will be no more than 24".

I am a fan of mild loads. I think 3k will be easily doable in a 28 inch barrel. If I make 3100 with a mild load, even better, but I don't want to push it.

I'm going to try h4350, h1000, and maybe even rl23.

H4350 works great. A very mild load should net you at least 3000 in a 28. With my 26 I am running a warm load but no pressure signs in my 26.

Good luck and buy up as many bullets and powder as you can. up

Check out This link. Has a bunch of great load data on the 6 creed more. Lots of guys running a 26" barrel and getting 3100 or better.

I sure love seeing so much praise on the lil ol 243. I'm no match for you fellas but I sure love that round for some reason. It's everywhere. Shoots great. Hardly no recoil out of my heavy sucker of a rifle and dead nutz on every time. Makes me want to start loading for it and really dial that sucker in now. It's still batting 1000 for me in the field with a 4-12 monarch with me or my Dad on the trigger. My buddy? I can't say that about him. Lol

I sure do learn a lot from you fellers. I appreciate it up

Yes you do need to load for it.

Bud of mine had me do load development for his plain ole Savage 24" .243 and Sierra Game Kings. A couple of weeks later I called him and told him I had it shooting 3/4" at 300, and ran it out to 1000 yards. He said "WHAT! I didn't know it would do that!"

There is something magical about that 105 hybrid running 3000-3100. I've got a 6brx, on my 3rd dasher barrel and a 6slr. They are all pushing that bullet up in that range and are pretty awesome.

I think you will love the 6 Creedmoor, it's just a variation of those. I'm running a 22" barrel on the slr and it's setup as a tactical gun the others are all 28" but their bench guns. The slr was a hammer at 2890 and I've since poured more fuel to her because that wasn't fast enough...I'm almost 2 grains higher using 4831sc but haven't shot it over a chrono or worked out a dope sheet to tell you the approx speed. If we start getting some nice weather I'll finish dialing it in and settle on something but if I can get the upper load to shoot like the lower one it will be impressive.

Good choice on the barrel...Brux makes a very impressive 6mm barrel.

EDIT - Oh and you'll be fine with the brass but keep an eye on the primer pockets. I had a 6.5 Creedmoor that I was pushing pretty hard and the brass was only lasting 2-3 firings. I back it off almost a full grain to save the pockets. It was accurate at both powder settings but I really wanted to run it at 2900 and it would get there without pressure signs with the gun or brass face but it was pushing the pockets out. If I was to run another one (which I have considered) I would attempt to make some brass out of Lapua 308 Palma...you get that small primer pocket going with the Palma brass and I think it would handle the pressure better.

I have a minimal amount of hunting experience with the 6mm Creemoor shooting the 105 Berger Hybrid running 3050fps from my 24 inch Benchmark.
Shot a couple of does and a coyote.
Killed one doe a 410 yards and she ran about 80 yards and piled up with a lung shot.
Hit one in the shoulder at 100 yards maybe went 20 yards.

Mine is a Horizon Firearms custom and shoots ...... Well like it's supposed to.Great cheers

when I flirted with the exotics (6creed), I was running a 24" tube, 115 dtacs and pulling a modest 3025fps, my shooting partner is running his .243 w/ 105, 24" tube and knocking back 3100 w ease....

I have since ditched the fancy speed demons and gone back to the 308.........

My team rifle is in 6mm Creedmoor. I like it. I don't push it too hard. 23" @ 2960fps with the 105 hybrid.

Kinda off topic but what velocity were you getting with the 22" barreled 6.5?
