it's our first year in Eastland so I don't know what's "normal" but the deer seem pretty scarce. We've seen our share of does and young bucks but nothing worth sticking a scope out the window. I shot a hog this year....and that's it.

Do yall ever think that the reason you are not seeing deer is because when one pops out you shoot it? Just my opinion.

let about 30 walk this season alone.....haven't shot a buck that was less than 5 years old in the last 15 yrs....not seeing deer vs. not seeing the right deer is two different things....stick that in your opinion.

I agree with what u said about.. not seeing deer vs. not seeing the right deer. But the way I have been understanding what everyone has said about eastland county is that they have not even been seeing deer or signs of deer not that it was not the right one.

ours are nocturnal. lots of tracks and something is eating my corn. it's just been a bad year in eastland. we have a funny place too. it's 190 acres between a high fence and the road. kind of like a funnel.

It's hard to manage a deer herd when they all get shot as soon as they cross the fence. I'm spending an s load on feed just to feed hogs I never see during the day.

We're getting tons of picks but all does and young bucks....nothing over 3.5 yrs old....and a lot of them at night. I do have pics of some nice bucks on this lease from several years ago but they're not around anymore...this being our first year I didn't expect much. Going to set up a few pens and gravity feed in our "no-fly zone" for spring and summer so hopefully we can get some better bucks in play for next year. Gonna give it a good effort and if there's still no mature deer....I'm out.

Didn't get to hunt after the first Monday of gun season this year and saw 4 bucks and 3 does that day, shot a 3pt that was 2.5 with a 12" spike on one side. During bow season saw deer almost every sit just not the one I was looking for. What concerns me more was lack of fawns, saw 2 while hunting this year. Groups of 4 and 5 does with no fawns in the mix. Neighbor said be saw very few fawns also, he did get the buck we had both been after for 2 years big congrats to him.

I hunt mostly during the week and see more deer then than on the weekends when there are lots of hunters out. They know when hunters are out IMO. The deer were nocturnal around the feeders this year from the cameras but enough activity to see some during the day.

Good luck the rest of the season for those getting to hunt. Historically the deer on the place I hunt there January and February are times they hit the feeders the hardest.

when I got on my lease 2 yrs ago I only saw 1 young 6pt at my feeder

after 2 years of feeding and baiting I now see spikes, forkies, young bucks, old bucks
6,7,8,9,10 pts

just because you don't see deer at your feeder doesn't mean they're not there
set up another feeder and see (that's what i did and i have 5 set up and that changes everything )

a hunter on my lease got pics of young bucks, does, and the only 3 10 pts on the place
another hunter 50 yds away saw nothing.
those 10 pts do not visit any other feeders

put in your time, spend some money,,, you'll be surprised what you can draw out of the woods

i am not a deer hunter , prefer to shoot hogs but I think I've figured out how to
draw them out.... more bait stations

try it

^^^^^^^^^^^

Could be something to that, have 4 running on 140 acres 3 are around one 70 acre block that the whole thing is good bedding area. Feed them on the edges to pull them from the sanctuaries where I do not go in unless to recover one.

i agree with kmon1,also hunting pressure plays a big part if you hunt a lot they will move imo.i hunt a small acreage and only hunt it 3 or 4 times during gun season.but always see deer when i go.the first year we took 7 deer off of it.this year didnt see as much so i picked out 1 buck and shot him the last weekend ilet everything else walk.

I went out to my place in Ranger today and filled feeders and pulled cards. I had about 500 pics of coons and dove only 5-6 pics of deer but they were all DAYTIME pics that is a huge change and they were all does. Hopefully this weekend we will be able to put something on the ground. Before today I was last out there last weekend.

Same here. I probably saw more deer this year than I have in the past, but they were all young. Doe groups and a few bachelor bucks following them around. It's been improving the last couple years, but I don't think it'll ever be one of those "petting zoo" counties. Too many small parcels of land.

Eastland area is tough. Good deer in the area but they always seem to vanish soon as the season starts. Lots of native food for them and they don't have to move much.

Like a lot of counties within 2-2.5 hrs. west of the metromess, good amount of hunting pressure countywide makes for wyly deer.

Hey Bob, off topic question, are you a machinist by chance? Seems like I remember you mentioning it one time.
