Have never reloaded any 30 cal before so looking for some good starting points for hunting ammunition that does well off the bench too. Im a big fan of the barnes bullets in my other cals but not set on them. Also, i've read that H4350 is a great powder for 30-06, seeing if yall agree/disagree and whats yalls favorite powder/bullet combo.
Thanks for the help!

After trying tons of bullets and powders I keep coming back to 180gr SGK and whatever flavor of 4350 I can find. Is is a combo that just works in my two 06's. Outstanding accuracy for paper and steel and wonderful on-game performance at '06 velocities. Being easy on the wallet is just a bonus.

There are many, many .30-06 loads out there that are really excellent. IMR 4064, RL15, and Varget are great with 150 grain bullets, and H/IMR 4350 is great with 180 grain bullets. RL-17 can also do some pretty interesting things with 180 grain bullets if you have a little time to experiment.

IMR4064 and IMR4350 powders have been winners for the 30-06 for years

All I use in .30-06 for bolt action anymore (165 grain SGK's) is IMR 4350.

I use IMR 4895 and am playing with IMR 4064 with 150 grain bullets in the Garands. I have ported gas valves in them.
Find the sweet spot for your particular Garand and truly wonderful things happen. cheers

I have PERSONALLY found that 48 grs of IMR4064 with a 180 Sierra Match King to be the best accuracy round that I've found for a bolt action 30-06.

There may be better ones and your mileage might vary.

Trying some IMR4064 w/ some 165 SGK and some RL-19 with 165 Nos. Partitions today. I'll let you know how they work. Gun as an older Rem 700 Mtn Rifle w/ Swarovski glass.

Gunwriter John Barsness has often written that when he gets new rifles to test, and many arrive chambered in .30-06, he always starts his load work-up with 4350 (most often H4350).

He loads 58-59 grains behind almost any 165 gr bullet, often the Sierra HPBT, but any quality 165 gr bullet will usually shoot well. Over the years, he's found that a .30-06 so loaded will shoot better than almost any other combo.

The loads I've shot most often are 58.5/IMR4350/165 NPT and 57/N204/180 NPT.

Ok, had a great day at the range yesterday.

For the 30-06 Rem 700 Mtn Rifle the load that was working for me was: 52 gr IMR 4064 pushing a Sierra GK HPBT. Groups were 3 shots of .8" and 5 shots of .85".

This was a MAXload. No pressure signs were showing.
