since we all have problems with poachers from time to time, figured I'd post about ours. last year we found blood on our property, on a gas pipeline that runs through the place. no big deal we never saw them. this year, my son was at our place the first day. sitting in his pop-up watching the feeder. he heard a shot, that was really close. he decided to investigate. he walked out to the pipeline, about 100 yards north. when he came into the clearing, he was behind a fallen tree. he knelt down and watched down the hill. galloping up the hill in the middle of the pipeline, was a 9 point.my son fired. the buck stopped, snorted, turned left and went into the brush. my son went in pursuit. he came upon the fallen buck about 10 yards in. he finished it off with another shot.
just then a fellow walked up to him and said "hey, I shot that deer" to which my son replied, "too bad, I killed it. and your on my property, get off" the guy said it wasn't fair for my son to take his deer, since he shot it first. my son told him if he had killed it then it wouldn't have mattered cause he was trespassing. the guy moaned and groaned, but finally asked if he could take a picture of the deer . son said sure, then get off the property.
guy said he didn't want any problems, son said he didn't either, "now leave."

I love it! buck was shot in rear end, chest, and head. tough guy!

I agree, why wouldn't you call the GW if he was poaching? Whats to stop him from coming back?

So did he shoot it on your property or shoot it on his and cross your fence to look for it. One is poaching and one is trespassing.

he shot it on our side of the fence. his feeder is 5 feet from the property line. right beside a creek. the blood trail is on my side. not much of a trail though. wasn't a fatal shot. we have people hunting our property all year long, no one out there. have never seen a GW out there anywhere. have owned it since '68. kinda sucks but is what it is.

we didn't call GW cause it was over so fast. didn't want to cause trouble, don't want to start problems with my land since im not out there a lot. we already had a house burn down there that no one knew anything about. plus, we have to cross others property to get to ours. simple enough.

Well...that's one way to handle it.

Damn shame when people are more afraid of the criminals than the laws that are supposed to protect them and their property. Glad it went well for your son cheers
